Apple Unveils 'Apple Intelligence' AI at WWDC 2026

Cupertino, California – Apple Inc. unveiled its highly anticipated suite of artificial intelligence features, branded "Apple Intelligence," at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 10, 2026. The new AI capabilities will be deeply integrated across iOS 18, iPadOS 15, and macOS 7, promising to transform user interactions with Apple devices. A key highlight is a significantly revamped Siri, which will leverage this new AI to understand context more effectively and perform more complex tasks.

The announcement marks a pivotal moment for Apple, which has been perceived as lagging behind competitors in the generative AI race. Personalized AI and Enhanced User Experience

Apple emphasized that Apple Intelligence is designed to be private by default, processing requests on-device whenever possible. For more complex tasks requiring cloud processing, Apple is introducing a new "Private Cloud Compute" system that encrypts data and ensures it is not stored by Apple. This approach aims to address growing concerns about data privacy in the age of AI. The AI will also power a new "Genmoji" feature, allowing users to create custom emojis based on their descriptions.

The integration extends to a new "Reply with Summary" feature in Mail, which can quickly summarize long email threads. In Photos, users will be able to use natural language commands to search for specific images, even recalling moments based on descriptions like "show me photos of Sarah at the beach last summer." The AI's ability to understand context will also allow for more seamless cross-app functionality, such as dragging and dropping content created by the AI directly into other applications.

Furthermore, Apple announced a partnership with OpenAI, integrating ChatGPT into its operating systems. This collaboration will allow Siri to tap into ChatGPT for more complex queries when its own capabilities are insufficient, providing users with access to a broader range of information and assistance. The rollout of Apple Intelligence will begin with iOS 18, iPadOS 15, and macOS 7 later in 2026. While many of the AI features will be available on newer devices like the iPhone 15 Pro and M1-chip Macs and newer, some functionalities will require the latest hardware, particularly the A17 Pro chip and newer.
