Gemini Notebook Integrates Google Play Books for Expert AI Insights

Google has launched a new initiative called "Expert Intelligence," which aims to deepen user engagement with trusted information through its artificial intelligence products. The feature debuts with an integration between Google Play Books and Gemini Notebook, allowing select ebooks purchased on the platform to be incorporated as sources within the AI notebook. This advancement enables users to pose questions about a book and receive answers grounded directly in its content. Additionally, Gemini Notebook can generate infographics, audio overviews, and quizzes based on the integrated books.

The capabilities of Expert Intelligence extend to personal and professional applications. For instance, a manager could use Radical Candor: Be a Kick-Ass Boss Without Losing Your Humanity by Kim Scott as a source in Gemini Notebook to brainstorm feedback strategies for employees. Expanding the Knowledge Base

Currently, Expert Intelligence supports over 100,000 titles from major publishers including Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, O’Reilly Media, and Penguin Random House. Google collaborated closely with authors and publishers to establish controls ensuring that users must own a book through Google Play Books before accessing its content within Gemini Notebook. If a notebook is shared, collaborators who do not own the book will be prompted to purchase their own copy to interact with its content; otherwise, the book's content remains inaccessible to them.

Google anticipates that Expert Intelligence will foster novel forms of content discovery and help authors connect with a more engaged readership. To determine if a specific title is compatible with the feature, users can visit its listing on Google Play Books. Eligible books will display "Gemini Notebook" under the "Tools" badge on the book's detail page.

Looking ahead, Google plans to extend Expert Intelligence capabilities to the Gemini app and its AI Mode. The company also intends to incorporate additional sources such as third-party subscriptions, business research reports, and textbooks, further broadening the scope of information accessible through its AI tools.
