Acer's 8-Inch Gaming Handheld Transforms into Mini Laptop with Keyboard
Acer unveiled the Project DualPlay Mini concept, an 8-inch Windows gaming handheld that ingeniously converts into a compact laptop using a flip-and-swivel display and a hidden physical keyboard.

Acer showcased the innovative Project DualPlay Mini concept at IFA 2026, an 8-inch Windows gaming handheld designed to morph into a compact laptop. The concept device features a unique flip-and-swivel display that reveals a built-in physical keyboard tucked away beneath the screen.
In its primary handheld configuration, the Project DualPlay Mini sports a familiar controller layout, complete with analog sticks, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, and shoulder controls. However, by opening the device, users expose a backlit keyboard. The display can then be adjusted to pivot into position above the keyboard, creating a miniature laptop form factor. Acer suggests these distinct input modes cater to different game genres, with the integrated controller ideal for traditional handheld play and the keyboard suited for games demanding precise input, such as first-person shooters.
Dual Functionality for Diverse Gaming Needs
Beyond its dual-mode operation, the Project DualPlay Mini concept also offers versatility for desktop use. The device can be connected to an external display, allowing for a more traditional PC gaming experience. Under the hood, the prototype is powered by an unspecified Intel processor. For thermal management, Acer has incorporated a dual-fan cooling system, drawing inspiration from its Predator Atlas 8, featuring a combination of one Predator AeroBlade metal fan and a second plastic fan. Connectivity includes two USB-C ports, with at least one confirmed to support Thunderbolt technology.
This isn't Acer's first foray into the dual-purpose gaming device space. The company previously introduced the larger Predator Project DualPlay laptop concept in 2024, which featured a detachable controller and pop-out speakers. The new Mini iteration, however, pivots the concept by starting with a handheld form factor and adding laptop capabilities, offering a more portable and adaptable solution for gamers on the go.
Acer has emphasized that the Project DualPlay Mini is purely a concept at this stage. Consequently, there are no confirmed specifications, pricing details, or a release date for commercial availability. The company is exploring the potential for this adaptable gaming device, but concrete plans for its market launch have not yet been announced.
