Acer Predator Atlas 7: New Intel Gaming Handheld Targets Q4 Launch

Acer is preparing to launch the Predator Atlas 7, a new Windows-based handheld gaming device that aims to offer strong performance in a more compact form factor. This smaller sibling to the Predator Atlas 8 revealed earlier this year will feature Intel Arc graphics and is slated for a North American release in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The Atlas 7 sports a 7-inch 1080p LCD display, a reduction from the 8-inch screen found on its larger counterpart. A key differentiator lies in its processing power, with the Atlas 7 capable of being equipped with either an Intel Arc G3 or the more powerful Intel Arc G3 Extreme GPU. The non-Extreme chip integrates the Intel Arc B370 GPU, featuring 10 Xe3 GPU cores, while the Extreme version boasts the higher-end Arc B390 with 12 cores. Both configurations prioritize CPU efficiency to allow the GPU to perform at its best.

Cooling and Controls

The handheld supports up to 24GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD storage, powered by a substantial 80Wh battery designed to offer extended playtime. Like the Atlas 8, the Atlas 7 can reach a maximum thermal design power (TDP) of 40W, indicating a need for robust cooling solutions. Acer has implemented a dual-fan system, combining a metal Predator Aeroblade fan with a plastic fan, intended to effectively dissipate heat and maintain optimal chip performance.

In terms of design, the Predator Atlas 7 draws comparisons to devices like the Asus ROG Ally, with grip ergonomics reminiscent of the Lenovo Legion Go. Acer is focusing on premium components, including TMR (tunneling magnetoresistance) thumbsticks designed to enhance durability and reduce stick drift. The device also features flat, recessed buttons and a dish-shaped D-pad, though a hands-on evaluation will be necessary to fully assess their feel and functionality.

While the Intel Arc G3 Extreme GPU has demonstrated its capabilities in high-end devices, such as the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, Acer has not yet disclosed pricing for either the Atlas 7 or Atlas 8. This lack of pricing information makes it challenging to assess its competitive positioning against established players like the Asus ROG Ally Xbox Ally X20, which retails for approximately $1,300. The market for portable gaming devices has seen significant price fluctuations, and consumers are hopeful for more accessible options, with a target price under $1,000 being a common aspiration for new handhelds in 2026.
