Apple's New Mac Mini Features M6 Chip, Starting at $899
Apple announced its latest Mac Mini powered by the new M6 chip, offering enhanced AI performance and speed. The base model starts at $899 and includes 256GB storage and 16GB RAM.
Apple on Tuesday unveiled its newest Mac Mini, equipped with the M6 processor, the latest in its line of custom silicon. The updated desktop starts at $899 for a base configuration featuring 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM. Preorders are open now, with the device scheduled to begin shipping on September 22.
The company claims the M6 chip delivers a fourfold improvement in AI performance compared to the previous M4 model, with storage and graphics capabilities also doubling. The M6 processor boasts a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU, an upgrade from the 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU found in the M4. In addition to the M6-powered model, Apple is also offering a Mac Mini with the M5 Pro chip, starting at $1,699. This higher-tier configuration includes 512GB of storage and 24GB of RAM by default, with options for a 15-core or 18-core CPU and 16-core or 20-core GPU, respectively.
Connectivity and Software Enhancements
Both new Mac Mini variants come equipped with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, alongside a standard 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port. Users have the option to upgrade to a 10 Gigabit Ethernet port for increased network speeds. The machines will ship with macOS 27 and the integrated Siri AI assistant. The Mac Mini has seen a surge in popularity over the past year, particularly among tech enthusiasts who utilize them for running local AI agents such as OpenClaw and Hermes. This demand even led to marked-up prices on platforms like eBay earlier this year.
Apple also introduced refreshed Mac Studio models during the event, powered by the M5 Max and M5 Ultra chips. The Mac Studio with the M5 Max chip starts at $2,499, featuring 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage in its base configuration. The M5 Ultra variant begins at $5,499, offering 96GB of unified memory and 1TB of storage. Previously, Apple had discontinued its entry-level Mac Mini, which previously retailed for $599 with 256GB of storage. The 512GB M4 model served as the previous base offering at $799.
