During the recent Xbox Games Showcase on June 7, 2026, developer Playground Games unveiled a new story trailer for the upcoming Fable reboot. The trailer offered a glimpse into the game's narrative, showcasing new gameplay mechanics, characters, and considerable action, from battling monstrous creatures to wielding powerful magic. Central to the presentation was an ominous monologue delivered by Isabel, the game's main villain, voiced by acclaimed actress Hayley Atwell. Continuing a tradition from previous installments, the Fable series has enlisted a diverse and star-studded cast, drawing heavily from the best of British acting talent to bring its fantastical world of Albion to life.

Associate Narrative Director for Fable, Craig Owens, provided insights into eleven of the major roles and the actors chosen to portray them. Hayley Atwell, known for her roles as Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and in the recent Mission: Impossible films, takes on the antagonist, Isabel. Owens described Isabel as a driven, powerful Hero consumed by grief and a quest for justice, setting her at odds with the player-controlled Hero of Briar Hill and her former guardian, Humphry. "Isabel’s conviction that she’s not just doing the right thing, but she’ll be able to make right any harm she causes along the way makes her a powerful, dangerous enemy," Owens explained.

"Hayley’s ability to combine vulnerability with strength made her the perfect person to play Isabel," Owens added. "Her desire to really dig into the character and deliver the best possible performance in every scene blew us all away." Atwell's dedication was evident in both performance capture and voice recording, showcasing her classical training and bringing seriousness and grit to the role.

A Hero Forged by Player Choice

The dual protagonists, the Hero of Briar Hill, are voiced by Lily Nichol and Ukweli Roach. This marks Nichol's video game debut after notable TV roles in I Hate Suzie, Lockwood & Co., and Renegade Nell. Roach, a veteran of UK television with roles in Humans and Big Mood, also brings prior gaming experience from titles like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Horizon Forbidden West. The Hero is characterized as an ordinary person from the village of Briar Hill, whose destiny becomes extraordinary. Players will shape their character’s morality, with Owens noting, "Whether they’re kind or cruel, generous or selfish, honourable or a complete arsehole is all down to the player to decide." Both actors were praised for their range and charisma, ensuring the Hero feels both integral to Albion and an extension of the player's will.

Fable's supporting cast includes notable British personalities. Matt King, famous for his role as Super Hans in Peep Show, plays Humphry, Albion’s once-greatest Hero now living in seclusion. King's performance is said to blend dark charm with emotional depth. Susan Wokoma, an actress, writer, and director known for her work in Chewing Gum and Enola Holmes, voices Arden the Cobbler, a Hero who distrusts heroism due to past trauma. Wokoma's ability to convey deep emotion was highlighted as crucial for Arden's stoic yet wryly humorous character.

Adding to the unique character roster is Richard Ayoade, the multitalented comedian, actor, and director, who voices Dave the Giant. Ayoade brings his signature deadpan delivery to a character who fancies himself a towering intellectual despite his literal, accidental transformation into a giant. "Dave is the ultimate British curmudgeon – set in his ways, convinced he’s right, and willing to go to any length (or height) to prove it," Ayoade reportedly stated. His improvisations during rehearsal are said to have significantly shaped the character.

The cast also features Natasia Demetriou, acclaimed for her role as Nadja in FX's What We Do in the Shadows, portraying Jenny. While details on her character were less extensive in the provided information, Demetriou's comedic and dramatic range promises a memorable contribution. The ensemble's depth, featuring established stars and rising talents, underscores the Fable series' commitment to integrating top-tier British acting into its gaming experience, aiming to create a rich and immersive world for players upon its anticipated release.
