New specifications for the upcoming Snapdragon Wear Elite chip, expected to power the Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, have emerged, indicating a substantial performance upgrade over previous models. The chip, codenamed "Vienna," was detailed in a Geekbench database listing, revealing its internal architecture and clock speeds.

The processor features a five-core CPU configuration: one high-performance Cortex-A78C core running at 2.11GHz and four efficiency-focused Cortex-A55 cores operating at 1.96GHz. Accompanying the CPU is the Adreno 622 GPU, which includes one compute unit (CU). The Geekbench entry also showed the chip being tested with 4GB of RAM and running on Android 16, signaling Samsung's commitment to the latest software for its wearable devices.

This new information provides a clearer picture of the chip's capabilities compared to Samsung's own Exynos W1000. Built on a 3nm process, the Snapdragon Wear Elite appears to achieve higher clock speeds. In Geekbench benchmarks, the chip scored 573 in single-core performance and 1,069 in multi-core, representing a 54% and 56% increase, respectively, over the Exynos W1000. The Adreno 622 GPU also demonstrated a significant advantage, outperforming the Mali-G68 GPU in the Exynos W1000 with a score of 1,459 compared to 993, a difference of approximately 47%.

Enhanced Performance and Features Expected

The substantial performance improvements suggested by these benchmarks mean the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 could offer a considerably more responsive user experience than its predecessor. Beyond the core processing power, rumors surrounding the upcoming smartwatch suggest it will boast a display with up to 5,000 nits of peak brightness, 64GB of internal storage, and a larger 800mAh battery. These enhancements, combined with the new Snapdragon chip, are poised to deliver enhanced battery life and overall functionality for users.

Qualcomm's move to collaborate with Samsung on the Snapdragon Wear Elite platform marks a significant development in the smartwatch industry. Historically, Samsung has relied heavily on its Exynos line for its Galaxy Watches.
