Ikea Unveils Xbox Gaming Furniture Collection

Ikea has joined forces with Microsoft to launch a new range of furniture and home accessories themed around gaming, commemorating the 25th anniversary of the original Xbox console. The nine-item Yxstaby collection, named for its Scandinavian pronunciation challenge, features items such as a TV stand, a laptop stand, a side table, a lounge chair, and a multi-functional toolbox. Standout pieces include a stool and cushion designed with recognizable Xbox controller motifs.

The Yxstaby range aims to integrate gaming elements seamlessly into living spaces, allowing users to "bring play into a room and tuck everything away afterwards," according to an Ikea press release. The collection is the result of a collaborative effort between Xbox and Ikea designers, focusing on pieces that complement existing home decor. It incorporates signature Scandinavian design principles, such as neutral color palettes and clean shapes, accented with touches of Xbox's characteristic green to highlight compartments designed for storing gaming equipment.

"How people play at home has shifted, and it is as much about relaxing and connecting with others as it is about performing, which changes what the space has to do," stated Ikea product design developer, Philip Dilé. "Together, we set out to make furniture people really want in their home, not furniture they accept because it is what you need to game."

A Nod to Iconic Xbox Design

Among the most overtly Xbox-themed items are the green, X-shaped scatter cushion and a unique stool. Ikea reports that the stool's design was directly informed by original 3D files for the Xbox controller, with its textured surface mirroring the controller's grip. This design choice cleverly serves a dual purpose, providing both a comfortable seating surface and a stylistic nod to the console's iconic controller.

The lounge chair includes a mesh pocket on its underside, specifically sized for storing game controllers, but also ample enough for larger items like magazines or books. The TV stand, available in white or black to subtly reference the different Xbox console color schemes, adopts an easel-like design. It features shelves and hooks for organizing various gadgets and gaming accessories. Practicality is emphasized with the inclusion of castors, allowing the TV stand and the side table to be easily moved around the home. The side table also features a green tray for additional storage.

A mirrored display box, offered in black or white, provides an ideal way for enthusiasts to showcase their collection of Xbox controllers as wall art. A metallic trinket dish draws inspiration from the directional pad (D-pad) on controllers, yet is designed with a subtlety that allows it to blend into various decor styles without being overtly gaming-related. Additionally, a wooden toolbox, while appearing less overtly branded, is also designed to function as a laptop stand, according to Ikea.

Ikea designer David Wahl shared his personal connection to the project, stating, "I queued all night 25 years ago to get my hands on the first Xbox console, so those shapes are nostalgic to me." He further explained the design challenge: "The challenge was making it work as a stool, with the right seating curve and stability, while still feeling like a thumbstick. It even moves the way a thumbstick does, so it tilts with you while you play." This approach highlights the careful balance between functionality and thematic design in the Ikea Xbox collection.

The Yxstaby collection is slated for availability online and in Ikea stores in Autumn 2026, with specific launch dates and pricing varying by region. This collaboration marks a significant intersection of the gaming furniture market and mainstream home design, appealing to a growing demographic that integrates entertainment systems into their living spaces.
