iPhone Ultra Color Leaked: White Alleged in First Look
Apple's first foldable iPhone, reportedly dubbed 'iPhone Ultra,' may arrive in white, according to a leaked image and industry insiders. The device is expected to launch alongside the iPhone 18 Pro models this September.

A purported image of Apple's highly anticipated foldable iPhone, expected to be named the iPhone Ultra, has surfaced, allegedly revealing its first color option: white. The image, shared by Chinese leaker Ice Universe on Weibo, offers an early look at the device. While the depicted model may be a non-functional dummy unit, Instant Digital, another leaker, has corroborated that white is the sole "confirmed" color finish for the foldable at this time. This revelation comes as Apple reportedly enters early mass production for its debut foldable device.
The exact alternative color remains undisclosed, though a supply chain source cited by Macworld suggests an indigo shade, akin to the Deep Blue finish on the iPhone 17 Pro. However, this same source indicated that the iPhone Ultra will feature a more limited palette compared to other iPhone 18 Pro models, eschewing bold or vibrant hues. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple intends to prioritize traditional, understated colors, aligning with its strategy for the iPhone X, which launched in November 2017 with only Silver and Space Gray options. This conservative approach to color choices is also likely influenced by the anticipated production challenges and the device's premium price point.
Production Constraints Influence Color Choices
Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has cautioned that manufacturing complexities could restrict the supply of the iPhone Ultra through at least the end of 2026. Introducing multiple colors would invariably increase the difficulty and cost associated with producing an already challenging device. Given the expected scarcity of launch units and a projected price exceeding $2,000, as reported by Gurman, Apple has minimal incentive to diversify the initial color lineup. Furthermore, consumers willing to invest at this premium level are less likely to make their purchasing decision based solely on color variations. The decision to limit color options appears to be a strategic move to streamline production and manage costs for Apple's groundbreaking, yet complex, foldable offering.
The iPhone Ultra is anticipated to debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026. The limited color selection, coupled with a high price tag, suggests Apple is targeting a specific segment of the market with its entry into the foldable phone arena. This strategy mirrors past product launches where Apple focused on core features and premium build quality over extensive customization options, particularly during the initial rollout of new product categories.
