Logitech's Tiny Mobi Fold Mouse Folds for Ultimate Portability
Logitech has released the Mobi Fold, a compact wireless mouse designed for travel that folds in half. Despite its small size, it offers extensive functionality and customization options for users on the go.

Logitech has officially unveiled its new ultraportable travel mouse, the Mobi Fold, following leaks last month. This compact device folds in half via a hinge capable of pivoting approximately 130 degrees. Available in graphite, off-white, lilac, and sand color options for $79.99, the Mobi Fold prioritizes size and portability, making it a feature-rich alternative to a laptop's trackpad for those willing to adapt to its unique ergonomics.
The arch-shaped Mobi Fold shares a resemblance with other folding devices like Microsoft's Surface Arc mouse. However, unlike Microsoft's design that folds flat for easier pocketability, the Mobi Fold operates more like a clamshell. Despite not having a distinct closing click, the mouse feels robust, with Logitech stating the hinge is engineered to withstand 15 years of daily use. A significant portion of the mouse, including the hinge, is covered in a silicone skin that enhances grip and provides some drop protection. This material features a pleated design where it covers the hinge, expanding to prevent pinching when the mouse is folded.
Weighing 79 grams, the Mobi Fold is slightly heavier than Logitech's Pebble Mouse 2 and the basic M196. When folded, it measures just over three-quarters of an inch in height and approximately 2.6 by 2.5 inches, offering a remarkably compact profile reminiscent of some wireless earbud cases, though slightly thinner. Logitech claims the rechargeable battery in the Mobi Fold can power the mouse for up to a month on a full charge. A quick 1-minute charge is sufficient for up to 22 hours of use.
This device is set for a global release, and its design includes a removable cover on the underside. This feature, likely influenced by recent EU regulations, allows for the rechargeable battery to be replaced in the future, promoting longevity and sustainability.
Customization and Connectivity for Mobile Users
The Mobi Fold is not intended to replace a full-sized desktop mouse but offers substantial functionality and customization to serve as a capable trackpad substitute. It features a 4K DPI optical sensor and a touch panel situated between the standard left and right mouse buttons. The behavior of this touch panel can be personalized using the optional Logi Options Plus software. Users can configure swipe gestures for rapid scrolling through documents and web pages or a more precise line-by-line navigation. Additionally, the top and bottom surfaces of the touch panel function as two extra clickable buttons, configurable via Logitech's app, defaulting to forward and back functions for web browsing.
Connectivity is managed by a single button on the underside, allowing the mouse to connect and switch between up to three different devices. The review process confirmed easy pairing with multiple laptops and an iPad. Instead of a dedicated power switch, the Mobi Fold turns off when folded shut, a design that deactivates all buttons to prevent accidental presses during the folding process. While scrolling remains active when the mouse is picked up to be folded, the button disabling feature ensures a seamless transition.
For users who prioritize portability above all else, the Mobi Fold presents an excellent solution for always having a mouse available. However, users may need some adjustment time to become comfortable with its unconventional shape and flat buttons. Unlike the ergonomically curved Microsoft Arc mouse, the Mobi Fold's design might feel less natural, particularly for those who prefer lifting and repositioning their mouse frequently rather than moving their entire arm. The thin profile also makes finding a secure grip challenging for some users.
Priced at $80, the Mobi Fold delivers impressive portability alongside more than basic mouse functions. While a physical scroll wheel might be preferred by some, the convenience of the touch panel's swipe functionality in such a compact form factor is a notable advantage. The Mobi Fold stands out as a compelling accessory, especially for users looking to maximize the multitasking capabilities of devices like the iPad.
