Samsung Display is launching its latest generation of tandem OLED laptop panels, achieving the prestigious VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification. These new displays can reach a peak brightness of 1,600 nits, promising a significant upgrade in visual quality for laptops from major manufacturers like Lenovo, ASUS, Dell Technologies, and MSI. The first product to receive certification, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition Gen 11, was confirmed on July 8, 2026.
The VESA DisplayHDR True Black 1400 standard, introduced on July 8, represents the highest certification for emissive displays. To meet this standard, products must deliver at least 1,400 nits of peak brightness, maintain 700 nits across the entire screen, and achieve black levels as low as 0.0005 nits. This peak brightness requirement is 40% higher than the previous True Black 1000 tier, indicating a substantial leap in HDR performance for portable devices.
Samsung's innovative tandem OLED technology, which stacks two organic emissive layers instead of relying on a single layer, allows for greater brightness without overloading the individual layers. This design not only enhances peak luminosity but also reportedly extends the panel's lifespan by more than double under typical laptop usage conditions, compared to conventional single-stack OLED panels.
