NVIDIA has released its first native GeForce graphics driver specifically for Windows 11 on Arm. Labeled as a Developer Preview, the GeForce 616.00 driver currently supports Microsoft's Surface RTX Spark Dev Box and hints at upcoming consumer hardware.
The driver package, discovered in a recent NVIDIA developer forum post, includes a file named nv_surface_woa.inf. This file details hardware identifiers and confirms two distinct RTX Spark N1X graphics processor configurations. One variant boasts a Blackwell GPU with 6,144 CUDA cores, while a second configuration features 5,120 CUDA cores. These specifications align with previous reports from VideoCardz.com regarding N1X 675 and N1X 650 models.
The higher-end configuration integrates a total of 20 Arm CPU cores alongside 48 Streaming Multiprocessors (SMs) for the GPU. The slightly less powerful model uses an 18-core CPU and 40 SMs. Both configurations are designed to handle up to 128GB of unified LPDDR5X memory, a key feature for performance in Arm-based systems.
Context for Arm-based Computing
The release of this driver is significant as it marks NVIDIA's growing commitment to the Windows on Arm ecosystem. Microsoft has been actively promoting Arm architecture for its devices, aiming for better battery life and performance efficiency. The Surface RTX Spark Dev Box, introduced in June 2026, is a compact system designed for developers, featuring 128GB of unified memory and a 100W power envelope. This new driver indicates that NVIDIA is preparing its graphics technology to power not only developer machines but also potential consumer laptops and desktops based on Arm processors.
Beyond the confirmed RTX Spark N1X variants, the driver package also lists an unidentified "NVIDIA Desktop Device" and several NVIDIA Neural Processing Unit (NPU) identifiers. These NPUs are based on NVIDIA's Deep Learning Accelerator architecture, suggesting integrated AI capabilities in future Arm-based systems. The "Desktop Device" entry could refer to the Surface RTX Spark Dev Box or another compact RTX Spark system, though the driver does not explicitly name the product.
NVIDIA and its manufacturing partners are reportedly working on several RTX Spark laptops, including the anticipated Surface Laptop Ultra and the Lenovo Yoga Pro 9n.
