tvOS 27 Ditches Apple TV HD and 1st Gen 4K Models

Apple has announced that its forthcoming tvOS 27 operating system update will discontinue support for two of its previous Apple TV models. The Apple TV HD, originally released in 2015, and the first-generation Apple TV 4K, launched in 2017, will be excluded from the latest software. This change means users of these older devices will not be able to upgrade to the new operating system and will miss out on its features.

The tvOS 27 compatibility list now includes the Apple TV 4K (2nd generation) from 2021 and the Apple TV 4K (3rd generation) released in 2022, along with any newer models. Apple unveiled tvOS 27 at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026, highlighting a revamped Podcasts application, improved animation fluidity, and expanded support for larger text sizes across the user interface. Hardware requirements shift with software updates
