Xbox App Lands on TCL TVs Alongside New Cloud Gaming Options
Microsoft is expanding Xbox Cloud Gaming access by launching an app on TCL smart TVs. This coincides with the rollout of new pay-as-you-go options for cloud gaming.

Microsoft is bringing its Xbox app to a wider audience of television viewers, announcing that it will be available on all TCL smart TVs starting immediately. This significant expansion allows more gamers to access the Xbox ecosystem and its cloud gaming library directly on their living room screens, without the need for a console.
The rollout of the Xbox app on TCL devices, a major global TV manufacturer, is timed with substantial updates to the Xbox Cloud Gaming service itself. Microsoft has introduced new pricing models, including pay-as-you-go options, making cloud gaming more flexible and accessible for consumers who may not want a monthly subscription.
Cloud Gaming Evolves with New Access Points
The availability of the Xbox app on TCL TVs signifies a strategic move by Microsoft to decouple gaming from traditional hardware. This approach aims to capture a larger market share by meeting users where they are – in front of their televisions. Previously, Xbox Cloud Gaming was accessible via dedicated apps on smart TVs from Samsung, or through streaming sticks and web browsers.
Under the new pay-as-you-go structure, players can choose to purchase individual games to stream for a set period, rather than committing to the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, which includes cloud streaming for a vast library of titles. This move is expected to attract a new demographic of gamers who are curious about cloud gaming but hesitant about subscription costs or the full commitment of purchasing a console.
"We want to make gaming more accessible to everyone, everywhere," said Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, in a previous statement regarding cloud gaming expansion. "Bringing the Xbox app to TCL TVs is another step in that direction, lowering the barrier to entry and allowing millions of new players to experience the joy of gaming on their favorite screens."
TCL smart TVs, known for their affordability and widespread adoption, will now feature the Xbox app as a downloadable option. This integration means that users with a compatible TCL TV and an Xbox controller can start playing a selection of games immediately, leveraging the power of cloud computing to stream titles that would otherwise require powerful local hardware. The app supports a wide array of popular games available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, as well as titles purchased individually through the Microsoft Store.
The company's investment in cloud gaming technology continues to grow, with ongoing efforts to improve streaming quality, reduce latency, and expand the library of playable titles. By partnering with major TV manufacturers like TCL, Microsoft is embedding its gaming services deeper into the consumer electronics landscape, making gaming a more seamless part of home entertainment.
This expansion also comes as the gaming industry continues to see shifts towards digital distribution and subscription-based services. Microsoft's dual approach – offering both subscription access via Game Pass and flexible pay-as-you-go options – provides consumers with choices that cater to different gaming habits and budgets. The success of these initiatives will be closely watched as the Microsoft giant aims to solidify its position in the competitive cloud gaming market.
