Gemini Task Automation Surpasses 40 Apps on New Samsung Foldables

Google unveiled significant enhancements to its Gemini AI task automation features at its recent Galaxy Unpacked event, extending support to over 40 applications across various categories, including shopping, dining, travel, and event ticketing. These advancements are integrated into Samsung's latest foldable devices, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8, which also debut an upgraded "native migration experience" as part of Android 17. This new feature facilitates the wireless transfer of a broader range of data types from iPhones, encompassing Google Accounts, passwords, Wi-Fi credentials, and eSIMs, in addition to previously supported data like photos, contacts, and messages. The update is also slated for rollout on Pixel devices and subsequently on other Android phones.

When Gemini task automation initially launched in beta earlier in 2026, its capabilities were limited to six rideshare and delivery apps, primarily available on the Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 series. The expanded functionality, now part of Gemini Intelligence, signifies a substantial leap, offering users seamless integration with a much wider array of services. Beyond task automation, the Gemini app now incorporates advanced reasoning capabilities, allowing it to understand on-screen content and interpret complex images when used as prompts. This feature provides users with a more intuitive way to interact with the AI, enabling them to use screenshots of shopping lists or inspirational photos as direct input for Gemini. The application, now named Gemini Notebook and pre-installed on Samsung's new foldables, is designed to foster productivity. On the larger display of the Fold 8, users can leverage a side-by-side workspace to drag and drop various media types, including photos, documents, voice recordings, and even whiteboard images, streamlining creative and organizational workflows.

The integration extends to Samsung's wearables, with Gemini on the Galaxy Watch 9 now activatable through a simple wrist raise gesture, mirroring the hands-free activation seen on the Pixel Watch 4. This hands-free interaction further underscores Google's commitment to making AI assistance more accessible and integrated into daily routines. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Fold 8, and Flip 8 will come bundled with a six-month subscription to Google AI Pro, offering users premium access to enhanced AI features.
