Instagram Grid Reorganization Now Available to All Users
Instagram is rolling out a long-awaited feature allowing all users to freely reorganize their profile grid. Previously locked by chronological order, users can now drag and drop posts to curate their profile.

Instagram is finally delivering on a promise made nearly a year ago, rolling out the ability for all users to reorganize their profile grids. The feature, which had been in testing phases for select users, is now widely available on both Android and iPhone mobile applications as of June 8th. Previously, the order of posts on an Instagram profile was fixed chronologically, with a limited option to pin three posts to the top. With the new update, users can simply long-press and drag any post to rearrange its position, regardless of its age. Any posts previously pinned will retain their top placement.
The announcement echoes a similar statement made by Instagram head Adam Mosseri in January of last year. At the time, Mosseri apologized for the disruption caused by a shift from square to taller, vertically oriented thumbnails, which had inadvertently altered the carefully curated layouts of many users' profiles. His latest update simply states "Finally," acknowledging the significant user demand for this customization. Despite this welcome change, many users have expressed in comments that they are still anticipating other long-requested features, such as a dedicated user interface for iPads.
Curating Your Digital Identity
The ability to personalize the visual presentation of an Instagram profile has been a significant point of discussion among users and creators alike. For individuals and brands, a profile grid serves as a visual portfolio, often meticulously planned to convey a specific aesthetic or narrative. The previous chronological limitation meant that older, potentially more impactful or representative content could be pushed down the page, out of immediate view. This new flexibility allows for a more strategic approach to profile design, enabling users to highlight key moments, maintain visual themes, or simply present their content in a way that feels most authentic to them.
This update signifies Instagram's ongoing efforts to provide users with greater control over their presence on the platform. In recent years, social media platforms have faced increasing pressure to offer more user-centric features that enhance personal expression and reduce algorithmic influence on content visibility. The Instagram profile grid reorganization directly addresses the desire for more creative control, empowering users to craft a more deliberate and aesthetically pleasing online persona. This move could potentially increase user engagement as individuals invest more time in perfecting their visual storytelling.
The rollout process, which began on June 8th, is being implemented gradually, meaning it may take a few days for the feature to appear on every user's account globally. Users are encouraged to ensure their app is updated to the latest version to access the new functionality. While this specific update focuses on grid arrangement, it highlights a broader trend in social media toward providing users with enhanced tools for self-expression and profile management. The platform continues to evolve, balancing its core functionalities with user-requested enhancements to maintain its competitive edge in the social media landscape.
