Samsung's latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8, have officially launched, marking a significant milestone as the first devices to integrate both Gemini Intelligence and the advanced Gemini Nano 4 model. Google confirmed in a developer blog post that Samsung's new foldable devices come equipped with Gemini Nano 4, boasting support for over 140 languages and enhanced multimodal understanding capabilities. This latest on-device AI model from Google is built upon the Gemma 4 architecture.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its premium variant, the Fold 8 Ultra, are powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chipset, paired with either 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM. Complementing this, the Galaxy Z Flip 8 features the Exynos 2600 processor with 12 GB of RAM, ensuring robust performance across the new lineup.

Enhanced AI Requirements and Features

Since its announcement in May, the requirements for Gemini Nano have evolved. The previous mention of "Gemini Nano v3 or higher" has been simplified to "Nano models on device AI." Similarly, the "Qualified SOC" requirement has dropped the "flagship" descriptor. Gemini Intelligence features are now specifically targeted towards devices meeting stringent criteria, including on-device AI nano models, the latest media performance capabilities, a minimum of 12 GB RAM, a qualified System-on-Chip (SOC), and adherence to Service Level Objectives (SLOs) for quality in 2026 and beyond.

Google is rolling out Gemini Intelligence features in phases. The initial rollout emphasizes expanded task automation, with support for over 40 applications. This represents a significant step forward from earlier iterations. Future updates are anticipated to bring more advanced functionalities, such as Create My Widget, Gboard Rambler, and Autofill with Google, which will leverage Gemini Personal Intelligence for deeper integration and user assistance. The inclusion of Gemini Nano 4 signifies Google's commitment to pushing the boundaries of on-device artificial intelligence, making sophisticated AI capabilities more accessible and efficient for everyday use.

The integration of Gemini Nano 4 into the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Flip 8 is a strategic move by both Samsung and Google. It highlights a growing trend towards embedding powerful AI directly into mobile devices, reducing reliance on cloud processing and improving response times. This focus on on-device AI is crucial for user privacy and enables advanced features even in areas with limited connectivity. As AI continues to evolve rapidly, these foldable devices are positioned at the forefront of mobile technology, offering users a glimpse into the future of smart, AI-powered interaction.
