SpaceX is poised for another significant launch as it prepares to send its 80th batch of Starlink internet satellites into orbit this year. The Falcon 9 rocket, designated B1088, is scheduled to lift off from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Sunday morning. This mission, Starlink 15-24, marks a substantial cadence for SpaceX's ambitious satellite constellation.

Liftoff is slated for 7:26 a.m. PDT (10:26 a.m. EDT / 1426 UTC) on September 6, 2026. Following a successful ascent, the first stage booster, B1088, will aim to land approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff on the autonomous drone ship "Of Course I Still Love You," which will be positioned in the Pacific Ocean. This landing would represent the 223rd successful touchdown on the vessel and the 659th booster landing overall in SpaceX's operational history.

The booster supporting this mission, B1088, has a distinguished flight record, undertaking its 19th mission. Prior to this Starlink deployment, it has supported three national security missions, the Transporter-12 rideshare, NASA's SPHEREX mission, and 13 previous Starlink satellite batches.

Shift in Launch Strategy

This Starlink 15-24 mission also signifies a strategic shift for SpaceX's satellite deployment operations from Florida. According to Kiko Dontchev, Vice President for Launch at SpaceX, all future Starlink missions originating from Florida will transition to launching on the company's Starship vehicle. This announcement comes as SpaceX actively develops its Starship infrastructure in Florida, with three launch towers being constructed at Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center and two at Space Launch Complex 37 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. The company has expressed its intent to conduct its inaugural Starship mission from Florida before the close of 2026.

Concurrently, SpaceX is advancing its work on the much larger Starship rocket at its Starbase facility in Texas. Preparations for Starship Flight 14 are underway, involving significant testing of its components. Recent activities include single-engine and six-engine static fire tests for Ship 41, and a 33-engine static fire test for Booster 21. While a specific launch date for Starship Flight 14 remains unannounced, hazard warnings issued for aviators and mariners suggest a potential launch no earlier than September 15, 2026.

The increasing frequency of Starlink launches underscores the rapid expansion of the Starlink internet service. This global network aims to provide high-speed, low-latency broadband internet access to underserved and remote areas worldwide. SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk, continues to push the boundaries of reusable rocket technology and satellite deployment, setting new benchmarks in the private spaceflight industry.
