Amazon Alexa Plus Now Generates AI Podcasts on Any Topic

Amazon's enhanced AI assistant, Alexa Plus, has gained the ability to generate entire podcasts on a vast array of subjects, the company announced Monday. This new functionality allows users to provide Alexa Plus with a specific topic, after which the AI will present an outline of its planned discussion points. Users can then influence the conversation's direction and modify the episode's duration before the AI begins production.

Illustrative examples provided by Amazon showcase "Alexa Podcasts" featuring two AI-generated hosts discussing diverse subjects such as the history of the Roman Empire, emerging music trends, and predictions for the upcoming World Cup. Beyond general interest topics, the assistant can also be directed to create audio lessons, for instance, on the historic Apollo missions, or to produce an episode detailing a new hobby like photography.

AI content creation expands to audio

This development places Alexa Plus in competition with other AI content generation tools. For example, NotebookLM offers similar capabilities for creating AI-driven podcasts, a feature also recently integrated into Microsoft Edge. Amazon states that the AI-generated podcast episodes will leverage information drawn from a network of 200 news publications with which the company has established partnerships. This network includes prominent outlets such as Reuters, the Associated Press, The Washington Post, Vox, and Politico, ensuring a broad and credible information base for the generated content.

Amazon initially rolled out Alexa Plus to all users in the United States in February 2026 and has since integrated the advanced assistant into its online marketplace. Once an AI-generated podcast episode is complete, users will receive a notification on their Echo Show device and within the Alexa app. Tapping this notification will allow immediate playback, and the episodes will also be accessible through the "Music and More" section on Echo Show devices and via the Alexa mobile application.

The expansion of AI capabilities into audio content creation marks a significant step in how users can interact with and utilize virtual assistants. By enabling the generation of custom podcasts, Amazon is offering a novel way for individuals to explore interests, learn new subjects, or even create unique audio content without requiring traditional production equipment or expertise.
