ASUS is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its Republic of Gamers (ROG) sub-brand with a special edition of its ROG Ally X handheld gaming PC. Dubbed the ROG Ally X20, this limited edition model retains the core hardware of last year's successful handheld but introduces a vibrant new 7.4-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED display. This panel boasts a peak brightness of up to 1,400 nits and supports AMD Freesync Premium Pro for smoother visuals. The package also includes a pair of ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR glasses, suggesting a premium price point for this collector's item.

The ROG Ally X20 is presented by ASUS as both a high-powered gaming device and a coveted collector's item. Its design features a translucent black plastic chassis, offering a glimpse of the internal processor and cooling system, accented with striking gold details. The new Nebula HDR OLED display is engineered for exceptional visual performance, featuring a rapid 0.2ms response time, a VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certification, and full Dolby Vision support. The screen is protected by Corning DXC glass, which includes an anti-reflective coating designed to enhance clarity during gaming and entertainment use. Recognizing the sensitivity of OLED panels to heat, ASUS has re-engineered the internal airflow channels to ensure the display remains as cool as possible during intensive gaming sessions.

Enhanced Controls and Performance

ASUS has equipped the ROG Ally X20 with new TMR joystick technology, aiming for improved precision and tracking accuracy, alongside extended performance longevity. The device also features a unique Transforming D-Pad, offering up to eight-way control, and redesigned face buttons that sit flush with the chassis for seamless thumb movement. For enhanced comfort and grip during extended play, the rear of the handgrips incorporates a rubberized coating. Under the hood, the ROG Ally X20 is powered by the same robust AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor found in its predecessor, complemented by 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and a 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe solid-state drive, ensuring compatibility with demanding modern games. Players can also benefit from the Auto SR preview feature, which provides sharper and smoother graphics, a capability previously exclusive to Windows 11 Copilot+ PCs.

To further immerse players, the ROG Ally X20 bundle includes ASUS's ROG Xreal R1 Edition 20 gaming AR glasses. These glasses share the same black and gold aesthetic as the handheld. While somewhat substantial in size, they project a virtual 171-inch screen from a distance of 4 meters, offering a 240Hz refresh rate and an astonishing 0.01ms response time, all made possible by advanced micro-OLED technology. The glasses support native 3DoF (3 Degrees of Freedom) for head tracking and connect to the Ally via a single USB-C cable, providing an expansive visual experience to complement the handheld's capabilities.
