New Autofocus Lenses Flood Market from Chinese Brands
Chinese lens makers are launching a wide array of new autofocus optics for mirrorless cameras, ranging from compact primes to cinema-grade zooms, intensifying competition in the photography market.

The global camera market is experiencing a significant surge in new autofocus lens releases, spearheaded by a growing number of Chinese manufacturers. As the 2026 trade show season unfolds, companies such as Viltrox, Laowa, TTArtisan, and others are unveiling an ambitious lineup of optics designed for various camera systems, including full-frame, APS-C, and medium-format mirrorless cameras. These releases span a broad spectrum, from premium autofocus zooms and fast portrait lenses to ultra-compact prime lenses and specialized optics like tilt-shift and fisheye designs, signaling a rapidly evolving landscape for third-party lens providers.
Viltrox, in particular, is making a substantial push across multiple lens categories. The company has announced or teased new offerings that include the premium AF 35mm f/1.4 Pro, featuring an aperture ring and controls geared towards hybrid shooters and filmmakers. Alongside this are faster APS-C options like the AF 18mm f/1.2 Pro and AF 40mm f/1.2 Pro. Viltrox is also expanding its EVO series with lighter, more affordable portrait lenses, such as the AF 75mm f/1.8 EVO and AF 90mm f/2.2 EVO. For casual photography, the brand is introducing compact lenses like the AF 25mm f/1.7 Air and AF 28mm f/4.5 L. Demonstrating a move into more specialized territory, Viltrox is also experimenting with a T/S 35mm f/2.8 tilt-shift lens.
Shifting Focus Toward Autofocus and Specialization
Venus Optics' Laowa brand, traditionally known for its manual-focus specialty lenses, is increasingly embracing autofocus technology. The company is preparing several new autofocus ultra-wide and fisheye lenses, including the Laowa CF 4.5-10mm f/2.8 Fisheye Zoom and AF 8-15mm f/2.8. This strategic shift aims to broaden Laowa's appeal to content creators and hybrid shooters who desire automated operation without compromising the brand's unique optical designs. Similarly, TTArtisan is expanding its autofocus lens offerings with models like the AF 24mm f/3.8 mini and the AF 85mm f/1.8 Neo. The Neo series features a minimalist design with body-controlled operation, intended to reduce cost and size while simplifying the shooting experience for new mirrorless users. The brand has also introduced compact pancake-style autofocus lenses, catering to the trend of lightweight everyday carry camera setups.
The proliferation of these new lenses highlights a significant trend: Chinese lens manufacturers are rapidly closing the gap with established brands, moving beyond budget-friendly options to compete in higher-end and specialized segments. This increased competition is driving innovation and offering consumers a wider range of choices at varying price points. SG-image is also contributing to the market with new compact autofocus primes for APS-C and Micro Four Thirds systems, focusing on portability and character-driven rendering. Meike is pushing boundaries with its AF 85mm f/1.8 GFX, bringing autofocus capabilities to Fujifilm's medium-format GFX platform. Yongnuo continues its steady expansion in the autofocus mirrorless lens market with new VCM-series primes.
Perhaps one of the most noteworthy advancements comes from Thypoch with its Voyager AF 24-50mm f/2.8. This lens represents Thypoch's first autofocus offering and is among the earliest constant-aperture full-frame autofocus zooms from a Chinese optical brand. The development signifies a major transition for Thypoch from manual-focus cinema-inspired lenses to the autofocus mirrorless segment, with plans for six autofocus lenses to be released throughout 2026. Collectively, these developments underscore the growing maturity and ambition of Chinese lens makers. They are no longer solely positioned as budget alternatives but are emerging as full-range competitors capable of delivering advanced optical solutions across nearly every facet of modern photography and videography.
