Framework is pushing back the initial shipments of its highly anticipated Framework Laptop 13 Pro by approximately one month. The company announced on June 11, 2026, that production will now begin in late July, with some units expected to ship in early August. This delay stems from newly discovered issues impacting the laptop's haptic touchpad and its custom display.

The decision to delay mass production was made after the Framework team identified and worked to resolve two critical problems. One issue affected the new haptic touchpad's reliability, specifically concerning repeated clicking, while the other involved the initialization of the custom display panel. Although solutions have been identified for both, integrating them necessitates a shift in the production timeline.

Technical Hurdles Require Production Adjustments

The haptic touchpad, designed for a refined user experience, encountered a rare firmware bug that could cause it to reset during intense use. Working closely with suppliers Lite-On and Boréas, Framework pinpointed an electrical issue on the PCB design related to grounding. A new PCB spin has been fabricated to address this, and extensive validation, including 200,000 sequential clicks, is underway to ensure its effectiveness. This new PCB design is slated for integration into all future shipments.

Similarly, the display faced a minor bug where the panel would not initialize on certain units. Display supplier CSOT identified an edge case in the initialization parameters and has developed an updated display firmware. While this update is entering production, it will also impact pre-orders for the display itself, now scheduled to begin shipping in July instead of June. However, Framework stated this display update should fit within the revised laptop schedule.

The company emphasized its commitment to delivering a robust and reliable product, even if it means adjusting the schedule. "We don’t like to delay any product, but we want to ensure Framework Laptop 13 Pro is as robust and reliable as it can be," a Framework spokesperson stated. Customers whose preorder timing is no longer suitable can obtain a full refund of their deposit.

Despite the full system delay, Framework confirmed that shipments of the new Intel Core Ultra Series 3 Mainboards will proceed on schedule in June. Additionally, modules that do not involve the touchpad or display will also begin shipping as planned. These mainboards are designed to level up the performance and refinement of the existing Framework Laptop 13 model, offering users more power and flexibility.

Framework acknowledged potential challenges for Mainboard pre-order customers regarding the availability of LPCAMM2 memory. To address this, they are offering customers the option to update their existing Mainboard pre-orders to include memory by contacting the Support team. Customers with Mainboards scheduled for a June batch should note that adding LPCAMM2 memory might slightly alter their shipment date. The company plans to introduce a bundle option for memory with Mainboard pre-orders in the future.

This situation highlights the complexities of consumer electronics manufacturing, where even minor glitches can necessitate significant production adjustments. Framework's transparent communication about the issues and their planned solutions aims to maintain customer trust while ensuring the final product meets high standards. The company plans to provide further updates as validation concludes and mass production ramps up.
