Google has officially confirmed that the original Pixel Watch is still fully supported, following reports of an erroneous error message that appeared for some users.

The message, displayed within the Google Health app, suggested that the wearable was running an outdated version of Wear OS and would soon cease syncing sleep and workout data. This caused concern among owners of the first-generation Pixel Watch, which was released in 2022.

However, a Google spokesperson clarified that the issue was a bug. "The Pixel Watch 1 remains fully supported," the company stated in a forum post. "We identified a bug where some users received this card incorrectly."

The error message claimed that users needed to update their watch to continue tracking their health data. This sparked worry, as the last official update for the Pixel Watch 1, Wear OS 5.1 based on Android 15 with a June 5, 2025 security patch, was rolled out in October 2025. The device, guaranteed three years of updates, had already received significant OS upgrades throughout its lifecycle, including Wear OS 3.5, Wear OS 4, Wear OS 5, and Wear OS 5.1.

Background on Pixel Watch Updates

When the Pixel Watch 1 launched, Google committed to three years of software and security updates. The device initially ran Wear OS 3.5 (Android 11) and has since been updated through subsequent major Wear OS and Android versions, most recently reaching Wear OS 5.1, which is based on Android 15. This update schedule aligns with industry standards for smartwatches and indicates a strong support lifecycle from Google for its first-generation wearable.

The recent glitch, while unsettling for users, highlights the complexity of managing software updates and user notifications across a diverse hardware ecosystem. For many, the Pixel Watch 1 still serves as a capable device for health tracking and daily smart functionalities. The confirmation of continued support reassures these users that their investment remains valid, with data synchronization expected to proceed without interruption.

The incident also underscores the importance of official communication channels for addressing technical issues. Users who encountered the message were advised to check official Google forums or support pages for verified information rather than relying solely on in-app notifications, which can sometimes be misleading due to software bugs.
