Vivo X Fold 6 Global Launch: Refined Foldable Design
Vivo has officially launched its X Fold 6 foldable smartphone globally, building on its previous iterations with refined design and updated features for the European market.

Vivo officially unveiled its latest foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 6, marking its first-ever global release beyond China. The device is now available in select European markets, continuing Vivo's push into the premium foldable segment. This launch signals the company's intent to compete more directly with established players in the foldable space.
The X Fold 6 features a familiar inward-folding design, with a large 8.03-inch inner display and a 6.53-inch outer screen. Vivo has focused on refining the hinge mechanism, which is reported to be more durable and allow for a flatter fold, reducing the visible crease on the main screen. Under the hood, the device is powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, paired with 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. These specifications position the X Fold 6 as a high-performance foldable contender.
Camera and Software Enhancements
Photography capabilities have also been a key area of development for the X Fold 6. The rear camera system includes a 50MP main sensor with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom. The front cameras, one on the inner display and one on the cover screen, are both 32MP sensors. Vivo has also integrated its proprietary imaging software, promising enhanced photo quality and new features.
On the software front, the X Fold 6 runs on Android 14 with Vivo's OriginOS 4.2 overlay. The company has emphasized optimizations for the foldable form factor, including improved multitasking features, split-screen functionality, and app continuity between the inner and outer displays. The global version also includes Google Mobile Services, a crucial element for European consumers.
The move to offer the X Fold 6 globally is a significant step for Vivo. Previously, its foldable devices were largely restricted to the Chinese market, limiting their reach and impact. By expanding into Europe, Vivo aims to capture a larger share of the growing foldable smartphone market, which has seen increased competition from Samsung, Google, and Honor. The device's pricing and exact availability details vary by region, but initial reports suggest it will compete in the premium segment, likely starting around €2,000.
Industry analysts view Vivo's global expansion of its foldable line as a strategic move to solidify its position in the smartphone landscape. The foldable smartphone market, though still niche, is projected to grow significantly in the coming years. Vivo's participation, with a device that appears to address some of the common criticisms of earlier foldables, could influence consumer adoption and push competitors to further innovate.
The design of the Vivo X Fold 6 has drawn comparisons to other leading foldables, aiming for a balance between a tablet-like experience when unfolded and a more conventional smartphone form factor when closed. The device's dimensions when folded are 161.9 x 73.9 x 14.2mm, and when unfolded, it measures 161.9 x 145.1 x 7.1mm, weighing 255 grams. The construction features an aluminum frame and a glass back, with a vegan leather finish also available.
