Digging into Apple's recent software updates, tipster @itspdfu uncovered evidence within iOS 27 code that confirms the presence of a Qualcomm modem in U.S.-bound iPhone 18 Pro Max devices. While Apple has not yet offered an official explanation for this modem difference, speculation points towards existing supply agreements. In 2023, Qualcomm announced it would continue to supply Apple with smartphone modems through 2026. It's possible Apple is fulfilling a minimum requirement of this agreement by using Qualcomm's hardware in its largest market.

The Apple C2 modem represents a notable advancement, offering support for ultra-fast mmWave 5G frequencies commonly used in the U.S. This capability aligns with, and in some ways catches up to, modems from Qualcomm, which have been compatible with U.S. mmWave 5G in iPhones since the iPhone 12 series.
