MasterCraft Boats Add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto Navigation
MasterCraft is integrating Apple CarPlay and Android Auto into its Crest and Balise pontoon boats, offering advanced navigation and infotainment features powered by Savvy Navvy's new marine apps.

MasterCraft Boat Holdings is bringing the familiar car infotainment systems of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to its latest pontoon boats, marking a significant shift for on-water navigation. Starting next month, new models from MasterCraft's sub-brands, Crest and Balise, will feature these popular smartphone integration systems. This move aims to provide boaters with a more modern and connected experience on the water.
The integration is made possible through new applications developed by Savvy Navvy, a company specializing in marine navigation. Both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will support Savvy Navvy's dedicated marine apps, offering features like Savvy Charts with both 2D and 3D viewing options. Users will also benefit from smart routing capabilities to plan voyages, search for points of interest such as marinas and anchorages, and a navigation mode that displays live estimated times of arrival, nearby boat traffic, and live location sharing.
Enhancing the Boating Experience
Savvy Navvy CEO Jelte Liebrand expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, "Boaters have been asking for a modern infotainment system for years. Plan your trip on the couch, step aboard, and it is already at the helm." This sentiment highlights a long-standing demand within the boating community for more integrated and user-friendly technology that mirrors the convenience found in automotive systems. The ability to pre-plan routes and have them seamlessly transfer to the boat's helm display is a key advantage.
The compatible helm displays will be found on all new Balise and Crest Conquest and Caribbean models. While the systems support both CarPlay and Android Auto, Savvy Navvy will be the default navigation application. Similar to connecting a smartphone in a car, users will likely link their devices via a wired connection or Bluetooth. Purchasers of these new MasterCraft boats will also receive access to Savvy Navvy Premium, unlocking additional features and advanced functionalities within the navigation app.
This development signifies a growing trend of extending automotive-grade technology into other recreational sectors. As screens become more integrated into vehicles, the expectation for similar connectivity and advanced features extends to other modes of transport and recreation. For MasterCraft, this partnership with Savvy Navvy and the adoption of established smartphone integration platforms are strategic moves to enhance their product offerings and appeal to a tech-savvy consumer base. The marine industry, often perceived as slower to adopt new digital technologies, is now seeing significant innovation that promises to make boating more accessible and enjoyable.
The rollout of these advanced infotainment systems on pontoon boats is expected to set a new standard for marine electronics. By leveraging familiar interfaces and robust navigation tools, MasterCraft aims to reduce the learning curve for new boaters and provide experienced users with more powerful tools for planning and executing their journeys. The focus on user experience, combined with the core functionality of boat operation, addresses a critical need for integrated digital solutions in the maritime world.
The integration of Android Auto and Apple CarPlay extends beyond mere entertainment, directly impacting the safety and efficiency of boating. Features like live traffic updates and detailed charting can significantly improve situational awareness and route planning. This application of automotive technology to marine environments underscores a broader convergence of digital platforms across different industries, driven by consumer demand for seamless connectivity and intuitive interfaces.
