Nintendo Switch 2 and Older Models See Price Hikes in Key Markets
Nintendo is increasing the prices of its Switch 2 and existing Switch models in Japan, the US, Canada, and Europe. The changes, effective September 1, 2026, for North America and Europe, and May 25, 2026, for Japan, come amid changing market conditions.

Nintendo has announced significant price adjustments for its popular Switch console lineup, including the upcoming Switch 2, across several major global markets. The revisions, detailed in the company's latest financial results, will see increased costs for both new and existing models in Japan, the United States, Canada, and Europe. These changes reflect "changes in market conditions and after considering the global outlook," according to a company statement.
In Japan, the price hikes will take effect on May 25, 2026. The Nintendo Switch 2 (Japanese-language system) will rise from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. Existing models will also see substantial increases: the Nintendo Switch (OLED Model) will go from ¥37,980 to ¥47,980, the standard Nintendo Switch from ¥32,978 to ¥43,980, and the Nintendo Switch Lite from ¥21,978 to ¥29,980. Notably, the multilanguage system available via the My Nintendo Store in Japan will maintain its current price.
For consumers in the United States, Canada, and Europe, the price revisions commence on September 1, 2026. The Nintendo Switch 2 will be priced at $499.99 in the U.S., up from $449.99. Canadian buyers will see the price increase to $679.99 from $629.99. In Europe, the My Nintendo Store will list the Switch 2 at €499.99, an increase from €469.99. These figures do not include applicable taxes.
Subscription Service Costs Also Rising
Beyond hardware, Nintendo is also adjusting the pricing for its Nintendo Switch Online subscription service in Japan, effective July 1, 2026. The standard individual membership will increase from ¥306 to ¥400 for one month, ¥815 to ¥1,000 for three months, and ¥2,400 to ¥3,000 for twelve months. The family membership for 12 months will rise from ¥4,500 to ¥5,800.
The Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier will also see price hikes in Japan. The individual 12-month membership will go from ¥4,900 to ¥5,900, and the family 12-month membership will increase from ¥8,900 to ¥9,900. Details regarding price changes in other regions, including South Korea, are expected to be announced by Nintendo's overseas subsidiaries at a later date.
This move comes after Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa previously indicated that price increases were not off the table. He had cited the ongoing shortage of memory components as a potential factor influencing hardware profitability. Furukawa emphasized that any pricing decisions would be made comprehensively, considering factors beyond just profit, such as the platform's installed base, sales trends, and the broader market environment. The company expressed apologies for any impact these revisions might have on customers and stakeholders, seeking their understanding.
