Specifications for the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 5 have reportedly leaked, revealing significant hardware upgrades that could set it apart from previous models. The leaks, primarily detailing internal components, point to a powerful new processor, increased storage capacity, and an updated accessory.

The most notable change appears to be the integration of a new chip. While previous speculation pointed to the Qualcomm SW5100, the latest information suggests the Pixel Watch 5 will utilize the unannounced Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Accelerated. This processor is expected to offer a substantial boost in performance, indicated by the "Accelerated" moniker, though official details from Qualcomm have yet to be released. This move signifies Google's continued effort to enhance the wearable's capabilities through cutting-edge silicon.

Beyond the processor, the internal specifications reportedly show a doubling of RAM to 3 GB, up from the current 2 GB. Storage is also set to see a dramatic increase, jumping from 32 GB to 64 GB. This expanded storage will allow users to store more apps, music, and other data directly on their device, reducing reliance on cloud services or smartphone syncing for certain functions.

Hardware Enhancements and Battery Life

While the core processing and storage are receiving major upgrades, the battery specifications for the Pixel Watch 5 also indicate minor but noteworthy improvements. The 41mm model is rumored to feature a 332 mAh battery, a slight increase from the 325 mAh found in its predecessor. Similarly, the larger 45mm variant is expected to have a 465 mAh battery, up from 455 mAh. Despite these small capacity bumps, Google is reportedly maintaining the quoted battery life of 30 hours with the always-on display enabled for the smaller watch and 40 hours for the larger model, suggesting improved power efficiency from the new components.

In addition to the internal hardware, the leak also points to a new accessory: a "2nd generation sport bracelet made of hydrogenated nitrile-butadiene rubber (HNBR)". This likely refers to an updated version of the popular Active Band, which currently utilizes fluoroelastomer. The use of HNBR might offer improved durability and comfort for active users.

The Pixel Watch 5 is also anticipated to launch with "Wear OS 7.0 with Gemini Intelligence," hinting at deeper integration of AI features and a streamlined user experience powered by Google's latest operating system. Features expected to remain unchanged include the Actua 360 Display with its impressive 3,000 nits of peak brightness, Bluetooth 6.0, Wi-Fi, NFC, and UWB connectivity. The device is also expected to retain its robust water and dust resistance ratings of 5 ATM and IP68.

The consistent stream of leaks surrounding the Pixel Watch 5 underscores the intense anticipation for Google's next-generation smartwatch. For potential buyers, the promise of an 'Accelerated' chip, significantly more storage, and refined accessories presents a compelling upgrade path. The wearable technology market is highly competitive, and these potential hardware advancements could position the Pixel Watch 5 to better challenge established players like Apple and Samsung in smartwatch sales. The enhanced capabilities may also signal Google's growing commitment to its hardware ecosystem and the potential for more advanced AI integration in future devices.
