Samsung is preparing to implement a price increase on its next-generation smartwatches, the Galaxy Watch 9 series and the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, according to a new report. This move follows a similar price adjustment for the company's foldable phones, suggesting a broader strategy shift. The report, originating from German outlet WinFuture, indicates that the new smartwatch lineup could see a price jump of between €30 and €50 (approximately $32 to $54 USD) compared to their predecessors.

In Germany, the base model Galaxy Watch 9 40mm Bluetooth variant is expected to retail for around €409.00, marking an increase of €40. The LTE version of the same model would cost approximately €459.00, a €50 rise. For the larger 44mm Galaxy Watch 9, the Bluetooth version is anticipated to be priced at €439.00 (+€30), with the LTE model at €489.00 (+€30). The premium Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 LTE is slated for a significant €50 increase, bringing its European price to an estimated €749.00.

Contextualizing the Cost Increase

While direct currency conversion for the US market is not straightforward, analysts suggest that American consumers could also face an increase of around $50 for the new models. This potential price hike comes at a time when consumers are increasingly scrutinizing device value, especially with incremental upgrades often accompanying new releases. Samsung has a history of positioning its higher-end devices, particularly its Ultra lines, with premium features that justify a higher cost. The company's upcoming July 22 Unpacked event is the likely venue for official announcements regarding these pricing strategies and new device specifications.

The trend of rising prices isn't exclusive to Samsung's wearables. Its foldable devices, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, are also reportedly seeing price bumps. The Z Fold 8 Ultra is rumored to cost €2199.00, an increase of €100 over previous models. Even with such significant increases, Samsung often aims to pack in enhanced performance and new features to meet consumer expectations for flagship products. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8, however, is expected to maintain its previous price point of €1999.00.

The Galaxy Watch 9 and Watch Ultra 2 are crucial components of Samsung's ecosystem, often paired with its smartphones across various form factors. Any increase in their pricing will undoubtedly affect a broad segment of Samsung's user base. Whether these price adjustments are justified by tangible improvements in features and performance will be a key talking point for consumers and industry analysts alike following the official reveal.
