Tecno Unveils Concept Phone with Zero-Millimeter Bezels

Chinese smartphone manufacturer Tecno is pushing the boundaries of display design with its latest concept phone, set to be showcased at IFA 2026. The company claims to have achieved an industry-first "zero-millimeter border," effectively eliminating bezels entirely to offer a completely immersive viewing experience. This ambitious project aims to move beyond the ultra-narrow bezels already standard on many flagship devices.

Current high-end smartphones from major manufacturers like Apple and Samsung typically achieve screen-to-body ratios around 90 percent. Some brands, including Xiaomi and Honor, have pushed this further to 95 percent by integrating under-display camera technology and further minimizing physical borders. Tecno's new concept, however, aims to erase these borders altogether.

To achieve the zero-millimeter bezel, Tecno has developed new display structural engineering. According to the company's announcement, this involves "advanced internal stacking" and novel screen packing techniques. These innovations allow for the elimination of the final millimeters typically required for internal circuitry, heat dissipation, and safety clearances around the display edge. The company is specifically measuring the absence of bezel at 0 microns, or effectively, nothing visible.

A New Design Language Emerges

While the device remains a concept and is not expected to be available for consumers until after its IFA 2026 debut, Tecno states it will provide a more engaging visual experience, free from the distractions of surrounding borders. A key consideration for such a design will be user interaction – how the phone's interface and touch sensitivity will adapt when users grip or handle the device without a protective edge. Tecno's press release acknowledges this challenge, noting that the company is focused on ensuring optimal "touch sensitivity" in this borderless design.

This bezel-less screen technology represents a significant step in Tecno's efforts to establish a "distinct design language" for its future smartphone lineup. The company envisions this as an "unmistakable identity that stands out" in an increasingly competitive market. With fewer smartphone manufacturers operating globally compared to previous years, establishing a unique aesthetic could provide a significant advantage. Historically, Tecno has focused its market releases primarily on regions outside of Western Europe and the United States, leaving consumers in these key markets to wonder if this innovative concept will eventually reach them.
