Apple unveiled over 250 enhancements across its software ecosystem, including iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, and watchOS 27. These updates, now in developer beta, promise significant improvements in performance, user experience, and new features, with a public release expected in September.

Apple used its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 keynote on Monday to highlight a substantial list of over 250 new features and improvements slated for its upcoming software releases. The updates span iOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, tvOS 27, and visionOS 27. Currently available as developer betas, these software overhauls are anticipated to roll out to the general public in September. While key features have drawn initial attention, a comprehensive look reveals a wide array of enhancements aimed at refining the user experience across Apple's devices.
The iPhone and iPadOS 27 updates alone bring a multitude of changes. Users will benefit from more seamless transitions between Wi-Fi and cellular networks and enhanced power efficiency for the Safari browser. Voice Control response times are also faster, and the platform introduces extra-large widgets for both the iPhone's Home Screen and iPadOS's Today View. Setup for Touch Accommodations is streamlined, and a new Live Activity feature will provide real-time updates for Precision Finding with Friends. iPad users can expect smoother scrolling in the App Library, faster window closing, improved Files app performance, and more intuitive Home Screen editing with undo/redo functionality. The iPad's menu bar access is faster, with options for app resizing and a persistent menu bar. FaceTime gains dual-camera support, and the Lock Screen offers faster switching and remains consistently awake while scrolling through notifications. Personal Hotspot on N1 devices is more power-efficient, and NFC reading is faster and more reliable. Significant improvements are also noted for pairing and handoff features with Made for iPhone hearing devices, as well as quicker entry and exit from Assistive Access and Guided Access modes.
Enhanced macOS Functionality and Efficiency
On the macOS 27 Golden Gate front, Spotlight search is becoming more relevant with improved suggestions and faster indexing of shortcuts and actions. Users can now draw directly in the Notes app and enjoy an updated video podcasts experience. Safari on macOS also receives enhanced power efficiency, alongside edge-to-edge sidebars, colorful icons, and uniform toolbars. Creating new user accounts is faster, and the Ethernet status is now visible in the menu bar. For those using external displays, macOS 27 offers expanded support for high-resolution and high-refresh-rate modes, including Mac mirroring in 5K resolution. A swipe down to refresh gesture is added, and Safari scrolling is smoother. The iPhone Mirroring feature supports DRM video playback and app resizing. Freeform users will appreciate smoother animations in Mission Control and Spaces, and the system UI gains HDR support.
The Apple TV and tvOS 27 updates focus on connectivity and user interface improvements. AirPlay connections to Apple TV are faster, and smart downloads are introduced. The Settings app will display AppleCare coverage details, and the Control Center is more responsive. The Podcasts app is redesigned with larger text sizes, and animations and app launches are smoother across the system. For Apple Watch and watchOS 27, battery efficiency sees improvements, along with more accurate step tracking and water detection. Wi-Fi connectivity is enhanced, and the Wallet app supports guest keys. The consolidated Find My app, faster app extension launches, and an improved tap gesture streamline interaction. Media playback is faster, and a dynamic app grid offers quick access. The Maps app includes a Parked Car widget in the Smart Stack, and settings within the Apple Watch app are redesigned. Support for time zone changes in Sleep View and transit cards/IDs in the Smart Stack are also new additions.
VisionOS 27 for the Vision Pro introduces the option to use panoramas for Environments and offers an extra-small widget size. New windows will feature curvature, and the Control Center is improved. Notifications can be viewed and responded to using a look and tap gesture. Spatial scene support for panoramas and faster boot and Wi-Fi connection times are also part of the update. A widget for Mac Virtual Display is included, and Safari supports multiple tab views. Home and HomePod updates aim to improve connectivity for Thread home accessories and HomeKit devices, leading to faster smart home accessory updates and pairing. CarPlay receives audio scrubbing on the Now Playing screen and improved navigation heading and GPS accuracy. The Photos app gains new filtering and organization capabilities, including adding keywords, customizing slideshows, and a new 'Captured by Me' collection. Shared Albums see expanded permissions, expiration options, and cross-platform access from Android and Windows. Messages will feature a drawing app, automatic retries for failed messages, and continuous sending of media. Apple Music and Podcasts offer improved streaming reliability and refreshed interfaces. AirPods gain custom EQ settings, and Mail introduces improved Top Results and faster message loading. Health and Fitness apps provide enhanced support for perimenopause and menopause tracking, along with more accurate route maps and faster data updates. Notes and Shortcuts also see significant updates, including section links, divider lines, and expanded automation capabilities. These extensive changes signal Apple's continued commitment to refining its software platforms for a more integrated and efficient user experience.
