ARC Raiders Shifts to Twice-Yearly Major Updates
Embark Studios announced ARC Raiders will now receive major content updates only twice a year to allow for more impactful changes and long-term game health improvements.

Developer Embark Studios has announced a significant shift in its content release strategy for the popular extraction shooter, ARC Raiders, moving from monthly updates to a twice-yearly cadence for major content drops. This change aims to allow the development team more time to implement transformative features and address the long-term health of the game.
The decision comes after the studio observed that the previous monthly update cycle, initially intended to keep players engaged and the game feeling fresh, was limiting the scope and impact of new content. "Over time, we've found that the pressure of a monthly cycle limits how impactful these updates can be," Embark Studios stated on the game's website. "Running at that pace isn't sustainable, or compatible with the bigger ambitions we have for this game."
Going forward, Embark Studios will reserve substantial new content, such as new maps, weapons, and character 'ARCs', for these major bi-annual releases. However, smaller updates, including new events, store additions, and crucial bug fixes, will continue to be rolled out more frequently. This tiered approach ensures that players will still experience regular content flow while major evolutions receive the necessary development attention.
Focus on Long-Term Game Health
Beyond new gameplay elements, the extended development time between major updates will enable Embark Studios to focus more deeply on the foundational aspects of ARC Raiders. This includes refining progression systems, balancing the in-game economy, and enhancing fair play initiatives like anti-cheat measures. "We know these are foundational to the experience, especially in a game where every encounter and extraction matters," the studio emphasized. The team believes that these deeper systemic changes require more dedicated development time than the previous monthly schedule allowed.
Embark Studios also highlighted the need to dedicate more resources to refining player progression, a key area where players have expressed concerns. "Some of the progression improvements we want to implement simply need more development time that we haven't been able to address properly while running on a monthly cycle," they explained. The shift is intended to allow for more thorough testing and iteration on these critical player-facing systems.
The first tangible change under the new strategy is the introduction of a new Trader next week, who will offer features like expanded stash space and an 'Expedition Vault'. Looking ahead, the next major update is slated for October 2026. This highly anticipated release is expected to feature the game's largest map to date, a new ARC operation, and a completely overhauled progression system, complete with an improved skill tree.
ARC Raiders, which saw significant player engagement following its launch in 2025, aims to leverage this new update cadence to foster a more robust and satisfying long-term experience for its player base. The studio is betting that fewer, but more impactful, updates will ultimately lead to a more polished and engaging game world.
