iOS 27 Beta Adds Dedicated Siri App to iPhone Home Screen
Apple's iOS 27 public beta introduces a standalone Siri app for the iPhone Home Screen, syncing conversations across devices and integrating with Apple Intelligence.

Apple this week released the iOS 27 public beta, bringing a suite of new features including a standalone Siri app and enhanced Apple Intelligence capabilities. This marks the first time Siri will be available as a pre-installed application on the iPhone Home Screen, a significant shift for the virtual assistant.
The new Siri app will appear on iPhones updated to iOS 27 later this year. It is also slated for release on Mac with macOS 27, Vision Pro with visionOS 27, iPad with iPadOS 27, and Apple Watch with watchOS 27. The application features a chat-style interface, allowing users to revisit past interactions with Siri and initiate new conversations seamlessly. Crucially, the Siri app synchronizes with iCloud, enabling users to continue discussions across all their Apple devices.
Beyond conversation history, the Siri app supports uploading photos and files for analysis by the integrated AI. This functionality ties directly into the advanced capabilities of Apple Intelligence, introduced with iOS 27. Users can expect access to broad world knowledge, personalized context from their iPhone, and the ability for Siri to analyze on-screen content and answer questions about it. By understanding the user's personal context, such as messages, emails, and photos, Siri AI can provide more specific and relevant responses.
Enhanced AI Integration and Device Compatibility
The integration of Siri as a dedicated app is a key component of Apple's ongoing push into AI. The new capabilities allow Siri to act more proactively and intelligently, leveraging the vast amount of data available on a user's device and beyond. This move signifies Apple's commitment to developing more sophisticated AI experiences, aiming to make its devices more helpful and intuitive.
However, the new Siri app and its associated Apple Intelligence features will not be available on all iPhone models. Compatibility is restricted to devices that support Apple Intelligence, which includes the iPhone 15 Pro and all subsequent models. This means the feature set will be accessible on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone 16 series, iPhone 17 series, and potentially future generations, ensuring a certain level of processing power and hardware support is met.
This strategic rollout of advanced features to newer hardware is a common practice for technology companies, allowing them to showcase the full potential of their latest innovations while managing development and resource allocation. It also encourages upgrades to the latest devices, driving hardware sales.
Apple has a history of introducing new default applications with major iOS updates. For instance, iOS 18.2, released in December 2024, included the Image Playground app. The preceding iOS 26 update brought new Preview and Games apps to iPhone users. The introduction of a dedicated Siri app in iOS 27 represents another significant addition to the iPhone's core application suite, aiming to elevate the user's interaction with their device and the digital assistant.
