Fortune first reported on Microsoft's specific super app plans in May, detailing that it would merge Copilot's coding assistant, chat capabilities, coworking tools, and autonomous agents.

Consolidating User Experience for Productivity

The primary objective of the new super app is to unify the consumer and commercial aspects of the Copilot product. Users will reportedly have the ability to seamlessly switch between personal and enterprise versions of Copilot within the same application. Internally, the project is being developed under the slogan "Delivering one Copilot," and is slated for release by the end of the summer in 2026. This integration aims to streamline workflows and enhance productivity by providing a consistent AI experience across different contexts.

Nadella highlighted the increasing user engagement with Copilot, noting that the number of conversations per user has nearly doubled year-over-year. He further elaborated that average weekly engagement with Copilot is now on par with established Microsoft products like Outlook and Teams. The time it takes for users to transition from initial deployment to high usage—defined as approximately 80% monthly active usage across a customer's user base—has significantly decreased from months to just days over the past year. This rapid adoption underscores the growing demand for advanced AI tools in both personal and professional settings.

The strategic financial decisions at Microsoft also played a role in bolstering investor confidence. Chief Financial Officer Amy Hood announced that the company has decided to extend the estimated useful life of its data centers and office buildings from 15 to 25 years. This reclassification has a substantial impact on future earnings reports. Specifically, future data center leases will now be treated as operating leases rather than finance leases, which will remove them from capital expenditures going forward. This adjustment is expected to significantly alter the financial calculations underpinning Microsoft’s future profitability, particularly in its burgeoning cloud business, which has driven record revenue growth.
