World of Warcraft Forever: Classic+ Arrives with New Zones, Quests
Blizzard announces World of Warcraft Forever, a new take on Classic+ that revamps vanilla Azeroth with new zones, quests, and a persistent level 60 experience.

Blizzard Entertainment officially unveiled "World of Warcraft Forever" at BlizzCon 2026, a long-anticipated expansion that reimagines the original Azeroth for a perpetual "Classic+" experience. This new version aims to recapture the social depth and RPG elements of early World of Warcraft while continuously introducing new content without traditional level progression.
The announcement comes as a response to persistent player demand for content that honors the spirit of original World of Warcraft while offering fresh adventures. Blizzard's previous "Season of Discovery" was an initial foray into this concept, but "WoW Forever" is positioned as a far more ambitious undertaking. The expansion will feature revamped versions of three classic zones and introduce three entirely new zones. Additionally, players can expect three new raids, a new battleground, and the introduction of a new playable race: the Skyborne elves.
Expanding Classic Azeroth
"World of Warcraft Forever" is designed to exist in a sustained level 60 environment. Instead of vertical progression through higher level caps, Blizzard plans to add new content horizontally. This means ongoing additions of new raids, quests, and other gameplay elements that expand the existing world rather than pushing players to reach new levels. This approach aims to foster a persistent and evolving world for players to inhabit indefinitely. The lore implications of new additions, such as the Skyborne elves who are not currently part of established WoW canon, remain to be fully explained, hinting at potential narrative divergence from the main retail storyline.
The game's development team stated that the goal is to foster a more interconnected player experience, moving away from the "lonely" feel that some players associate with the modern retail version of World of Warcraft. This is partly attributed to matchmaking systems that, while efficient, have reduced organic player interaction over the years. By focusing on a rich, albeit static, level cap experience, Blizzard hopes to encourage more social engagement and community building within the game.
Contextually, World of Warcraft Classic's initial release in 2019 was a direct response to the proliferation of private servers and a vocal segment of the player base yearning for the early days of the game. While the retail version has evolved significantly with complex talent systems and extensive quality-of-life features, many players felt it had lost some of the original's role-playing depth and sense of community. "WoW Forever" seeks to bridge this gap, offering a modernized yet classic-feeling experience. Players have long requested a "Classic+" option, and this appears to be Blizzard's definitive answer.
Beyond "WoW Forever," Blizzard also offered a glimpse into the future of the retail game. The next retail content patch, codenamed "Eclipse," will pit players against the antagonist Xal'atath in a significant storyline confrontation. This battle is anticipated to lead into the next expansion, "The Last Titan," which is slated for release in 2027. Details on "The Last Titan" were scarce, but the tease suggests a continuation of the high-stakes narrative established in "Eclipse."
World of Warcraft Forever is scheduled to launch in six weeks, offering players a new way to engage with the beloved fantasy world of Azeroth. The announcement at BlizzCon 2026 has generated significant excitement among the community, particularly those who have advocated for a sustained, content-rich Classic experience.
