WhatsApp AI photo expansion tool rolls out to iOS users in testing
WhatsApp is rolling out an AI-powered photo expansion feature for iOS users through its app drawing editor, powered by Meta AI.

Select users of WhatsApp are now gaining access to a new Meta AI-powered image expansion tool on iOS. The functionality is currently appearing for individuals in the beta program via TestFlight as well as select users on the main application.
When individuals pick a photograph within their messaging interface, the platform opens the drawing editor where various effects can be applied. The system introduces a dedicated selection to expand pictures using artificial intelligence. Upon choosing this option, the software processes the image for a few moments to create an enlarged version, which then appears in the editor ready to be shared. The capability also supports status updates.
Testing and Availability
According to WABetaInfo, individuals who are unsatisfied with the generated output can utilize an undo button to return to the original picture and attempt the generation process again. While an official timeline for a widespread public release remains unannounced, the functionality has also reached Android beta testers and select public iOS users, suggesting a broader release could follow.
Apple device owners who have access to Apple Intelligence already utilize a native extension tool known as Extend. Similar image-stretching features are also available on platforms like ChatGPT and editing software like Photoshop.
