Amazon Alexa Sleep Studio Helps Kids Rest With New Echo Feature
Amazon's Echo smart speakers now offer Sleep Studio, a new feature designed to help children wind down and fall asleep. The service combines stories, sounds, and meditations.

Amazon has introduced a new feature for its Echo and Echo Kids smart speakers called Sleep Studio, aiming to simplify bedtime routines for children and alleviate stress for parents. This new offering utilizes a blend of bedtime stories, calming soundscapes, and guided meditations, complemented by scheduling and customization options exclusively managed by adults.
Sleep Studio is accessible to users with an active Amazon Kids Plus subscription, priced at $5.99 per month, at no additional charge. Amazon is also providing a complimentary one-month trial for the service. Purchasing an Echo Kids device further sweetens the deal with a complementary six or 12-month subscription to Amazon Kids Plus.
Parents and caregivers can configure curated playlists and sleep schedules for their children through the Amazon Kids Parent Dashboard. This dashboard is available as a standalone mobile application for both iOS and Android devices, as well as through a dedicated website. A dedicated half-hour wind-down routine will be automatically initiated on Echo devices 30 minutes prior to a child's scheduled bedtime. However, children can also independently activate this routine at any time they feel sleepy by simply saying, "Alexa, play Sleep Studio."
Enhanced Sleep Aids for Children
The Echo Glow, a device that also functions as a night light, will now illuminate with color-coded lights. These visual cues are designed to help children understand when it is time to settle down and sleep, and conversely, when it is appropriate to get out of bed. The content featured within Sleep Studio is sourced from renowned platforms such as Headspace, Moshi, and Calm, offering a variety of soothing options.
"A good night’s sleep is important for a healthy, rested mind for everyone. That’s why Calm has created a sprawling library of meditations, lullabies, soundscapes, and Sleep Stories for kids," stated Fergal Walker, the vice president of partnerships at Calm, in a statement released by Amazon. The integration of these established wellness platforms aims to provide children with engaging and effective tools to promote better sleep hygiene.
The introduction of Sleep Studio comes at a time when many parents are seeking effective solutions to manage their children's sleep patterns. The reliance on smart home devices for household management and entertainment has grown significantly, making features like Sleep Studio a natural extension of the Amazon ecosystem. The service aims to create a more positive and less confrontational bedtime experience, leveraging technology to support child development and well-being.
This initiative by Amazon highlights a growing trend in the biotech and health sector, where technology companies are increasingly developing products and services focused on mental wellness and sleep improvement for all age groups. By partnering with established wellness content providers, Amazon is able to offer a high-quality, curated experience that meets the specific needs of young users. The Amazon Kids Plus subscription bundle provides a comprehensive suite of educational and entertainment content, with Sleep Studio now adding a crucial element of health and wellness to its offerings.
