1Password Integrates with Claude AI for Secure Logins
1Password has launched an integration with Claude AI, allowing the artificial intelligence to log into websites without ever seeing user passwords. This new feature enhances security for AI-assisted browsing tasks.

1Password, the popular password management application, has announced a new integration with the artificial intelligence service Claude. This development enables Claude to securely access user credentials stored within 1Password, facilitating the completion of browser-based tasks without exposing sensitive passwords. The feature ensures that passwords never enter Claude's conversational context, memory, or Anthropic's systems.
When Claude needs to sign in to a website, 1Password will present the user with information about which credential Claude requires and the reason for the request. Upon user approval, 1Password directly injects the necessary credential into the webpage. This access is strictly limited to the duration of the current task and concludes once the task is finished. The 1Password team has implemented checks to verify that no secrets are inadvertently revealed on the page after a password has been autofilled.
Currently, the integration supports logins and one-time codes, with credit cards and identity information not yet included. The 1Password browser extension is also receiving an update with a new 'Agentic Mode.' This mode is designed to give users granular control over AI agents operating within their browser. When an AI agent takes control of browsing functions, the 1Password extension will enhance its security lockdown, preventing password exposure. The password input interface will be hidden, and the agent can only utilize logins and one-time codes after explicit user consent.
Enhanced Security Measures for AI Agents
Agentic Mode aims to safeguard user passwords even when the specific 1Password for Claude integration is not in use. This added layer of protection is crucial as AI agents become more prevalent in managing online activities. The 1Password for Claude functionality is available on Mac devices and requires a subscription to 1Password Business, Family, or Individual plans. Users must also have a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise Claude plan to utilize the feature. 1Password has published a detailed help document outlining the setup process.
Claude can leverage 1Password logins across various websites where it is enabled to perform actions within the Chrome browser. For this to work, both the 1Password desktop app and browser extension are necessary, alongside the Claude desktop app and its Chrome browser extension. This collaboration between 1Password and Claude represents a significant step forward in securing user data while embracing the capabilities of AI for everyday online tasks, addressing growing concerns about privacy in the age of advanced artificial intelligence.
