Accessory manufacturer iFunSmart has listed the first protective cases for Apple's anticipated foldable iPhone, adding further evidence to ongoing rumors surrounding the device's potential design and launch timeline. Accessory makers commonly produce cases in advance of new product unveilings, relying on leaked design specifications or dummy units to ensure their products are ready for market on day one. These designs, while speculative, have a strong track record of accuracy, as accessory companies cannot afford to miss the initial sales window.

Images of foldable iPhone dummy units, circulated by leaker Sonny Dickson in April, likely served as a blueprint for these case manufacturers. The iFunSmart listings, first reported by the French Apple news site iPhoneSoft, showcase a design featuring a modest rear camera bump accommodating two lenses, a slender profile, and a circular recess for MagSafe-compatible magnets. The cases are described as offering robust protection, including military-grade drop resistance, integrated N52 magnets, a matte translucent finish, and raised bezels around both the cameras (1.5mm) and the screen (1mm).

Design Details Emerge from Case Prototypes

The external appearance suggested by the cases aligns with previous leaks and dummy unit sightings, indicating a clearer picture of the foldable's aesthetics is solidifying. Notably, the design includes cutouts for only two rear camera lenses, supporting reports that Apple might omit a telephoto lens. A cutout for a dedicated camera control button is also present, but there is no indication of an Action button. The multi-part design of the case, with separate sections rather than a single piece, is a direct consequence of the device's folding form factor. The presence of magnets in the case doesn't definitively confirm MagSafe integration within the foldable iPhone itself; speculation has previously suggested the feature might be absent. It's possible the N52 magnets are intended solely for attaching external accessories like wireless chargers and car mounts, without a corresponding magnetic array inside the phone.

These listings are likely precursors to a broader market influx of accessories. As the Apple foldable iPhone's expected announcement approaches, numerous other brands are anticipated to release their own protective cases. Industry consensus points to a potential launch in the fall of 2026, possibly alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. Current projections suggest the foldable device will feature a 5.5-inch external display and a larger 7.8-inch internal screen. When folded, it's expected to measure approximately 9.5mm thick, slimming down to about 4.5mm when open. Powering the device will be the new A20 Pro chip, paired with 12GB of RAM. The camera system is rumored to include dual 48-megapixel rear sensors. In a departure from current models, Touch ID may be integrated into the side button instead of relying on Face ID. The foldable iPhone is anticipated to carry a starting price of around $2,000.
