Google Pixel 11: Price Hikes, New Colors, and Camera Glow Leaks
Google's upcoming Pixel 11 series is rumored to launch with higher prices, new color options, and a unique 'Pixel Glow' notification feature. The official announcement is expected Aug. 12.

Google is poised to unveil its latest smartphone lineup, the Pixel 11 series, at its "Made by Google" event scheduled for August 12 in New York City. Alongside the anticipated Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pixel 11 Pro XL models, the company may also introduce a Pixel 11 Pro Fold and a Pixel Watch 5. Ahead of the event, a steady stream of rumors and leaks suggests significant updates, particularly concerning pricing, design, and camera technology, with a strong emphasis on Google's evolving AI capabilities. The new phones are expected to showcase AI features initially exclusive to the Pixel 11, aiming to differentiate it in a competitive market.
The Pixel 11 series is anticipated to hit the market a few weeks after the August 12 event, mirroring last year's release cadence where the Pixel 10 series launched in late August and the Pro Fold followed in October. A prominent rumor indicates a price increase across the board for the Pixel 11 lineup. Leaked information, purportedly from deleted Amazon listings, suggests that Google will discontinue the 128GB storage option for the base Pixel 11, thereby raising its starting price to that of the previous 256GB model, reportedly $899. Similarly, the Pixel 11 Pro is expected to start at $1,099 for its 256GB variant. While these models retain 12GB of RAM for the 256GB configurations, higher storage options will offer 16GB. Premium models like the Pixel 11 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro Fold are projected to see a $100 price hike, beginning at $1,299 and $1,899 respectively. This increase is attributed, in part, to ongoing memory shortages and includes 12GB RAM for 256GB configurations, with 16GB for higher tiers.
Pixel Glow and Design Tweaks Emerge
Visually, the Pixel 11 phones are expected to retain a similar design to their predecessors. Leaks point to a 6.3-inch display for the Pixel 11 and Pixel 11 Pro, a 6.8-inch display for the Pro XL, and a 6.4-inch outer screen for the Pro Fold, though one listing suggested 6.5 inches. Early CAD renderings indicate minor design adjustments, including thinner bezels and an all-black camera bar. The most distinctive rumored feature is the "Pixel Glow," an LED array encircling the camera module. This feature, possibly first teased at Google I/O, is designed to provide visual notifications with subtle light and color cues when the phone is placed face down, indicating the type of incoming alert. Supporting this rumor, some leaked Pixel 11 cases feature a wider camera cutout to accommodate the new LED system.
Color options for the Pixel 11 series are also circulating. Initial reports suggested colors like Light Sterling (gray), Midnight Haze (black), Fuschia (pink), and Moss (green). Other models might come in Midnight Haze, Light Fog (white), Dune (pink), and Pine (green). However, the recently leaked Amazon listings present a different palette: Frost, Pistachio, Hibiscus, and Obsidian for the Pixel 11; Canyon and Obsidian for the 11 Pro and Pro XL; and Olive and Obsidian for the 11 Pro Fold.
Under the hood, the Pixel 11 is rumored to feature an upgraded 50-megapixel main camera sensor, a step up from the 48-megapixel sensor on the Pixel 10, bringing it closer to the higher resolution capabilities of the Pro models. Front-facing cameras on all Pixel 11 devices are expected to be 13 megapixels. Conflicting reports exist regarding RAM on the base Pixel 11; one source suggests it might start with 8GB, with a 12GB option potentially being more expensive, contrasting with other leaks indicating 12GB across the board. Storage configurations are said to range from 256GB and 512GB for the Pixel 11, and up to 1TB for the Pro, Pro XL, and Pro Fold models. The Pixel 11 Pro Fold is expected to come standard with 16GB of RAM.
Performance is anticipated to be driven by Google's next-generation Tensor G6 chipset, built on a more efficient 2nm process. A notable shift in modem technology is also rumored, with Google reportedly moving from Samsung Exynos modems to MediaTek M90 modems, as hinted at by FCC filings for the Pixel 11 Pro Fold. Battery capacities for the series are also detailed in leaks: the Pixel 11 is listed with a 4,985 mAh battery, the Pixel 11 Pro with 4,850 mAh, the Pixel 11 Pro XL with 5,115 mAh, and the Pixel 11 Pro Fold with 4,750 mAh. As the August 12 event approaches, further details about the Google Pixel 11 series are expected to emerge.
