Halide Mark III iPhone Camera App Upgrades Photography Tools
Halide Mark III, the latest version of the popular iPhone camera app, has launched with significant upgrades aimed at enhancing mobile photography. New features include advanced "Halide Looks," an expanded Photo Lab editor, and refined composition tools.

Halide Mark III, the much-anticipated professional camera application for iPhone, has officially launched, introducing a suite of powerful new features designed to elevate mobile photography. The update focuses on three key areas: enhancing image aesthetics through sophisticated "Halide Looks," expanding editing capabilities with a new Photo Lab, and refining the user interface for better composition.
The "Halide Looks" feature offers photographers a range of physically accurate alternative processes and film simulations, allowing for greater creative expression directly within the app. Launched with five distinct looks – Valencia, Rembrandt, Nova, Zephyr, and Chrome Noir – each is tailored for specific photographic intents, from vibrant landscapes to nuanced portraits. "We’re excited to finally unveil Halide Looks, our gorgeous, physically accurate alternative processes," stated a Halide representative. "Combined with our film simulation engine, and optional HDR, photographers now have an incredible set of creative tools to express themselves." These looks are designed to provide striking differences compared to standard iPhone processing, offering rich contrast, deep saturation, and carefully tuned color profiles.
Beyond capturing images, Halide Mark III introduces a significantly enhanced photo editor called the Photo Lab. This new tool allows users to further refine RAW files captured within Halide. The Photo Lab offers a "Quick Edit" section for immediate adjustments to looks, exposure, and HDR settings. More advanced controls allow for adjustments to framing, color balance, and more. A notable beta feature is the ability for the Photo Lab to edit RAW files from professional cameras made by manufacturers such as Canon, Sony, Nikon, Leica, Fujifilm, and Hasselblad, marking the first time Halide has extended its editing capabilities beyond the iPhone.
Refined User Interface and Composition Tools
Composition remains a critical aspect of photography, and Halide Mark III addresses this with a redesigned user interface that places composition tools prominently. Users can now select aspect ratios that mirror popular film formats, including 35mm (3:2), medium format (1:1), and panoramic (65:24). The app also supports a dynamic aspect ratio for Instagram, adapting to portrait or landscape orientations. Complementing the aspect ratio options are advanced composition overlays such as the rule of thirds, a uniform grid, the golden ratio, and rabatment of the rectangle. For users who preferred the previous layout, the Mark II camera interface remains an available option.
The release of Halide Mark III builds upon the success of its predecessor, Halide Mark II. The company has continued its commitment to providing value to its existing user base. Halide Mark III is available as a free upgrade for users who purchased Halide Mark II. Subscribers to Halide also gain access to the new version as part of their subscription starting today. For new users, Halide Mark III can be purchased outright for $59.99, or through an annual subscription priced at $19.99 per year. This comprehensive upgrade underscores Halide's dedication to empowering smartphone photographers with professional-grade tools.
