Modern Warfare 4 Beta Update Deploys New Map, Mode, Toned-Down Footsteps
The Modern Warfare 4 beta has received its first significant update, introducing a new map and game mode. Developers also addressed community feedback by reducing footstep audio volume and range.

Infinity Ward has released the initial major update for the Modern Warfare 4 beta, addressing key community concerns raised on the opening day. The patch focuses on several critical gameplay elements, including footstep audio, weapon lethality, and the introduction of map voting.
"We heard you loud and clear on the footstep volume, so we've adjusted things downward for today," the development studio announced in its official patch notes. This adjustment specifically targets both the volume and the audible range of enemy footstep and gear sounds, aiming to create a more balanced audio experience. In addition to audio changes, the time-to-kill (TTK) for some weapons has been rebalanced. The ISO Nightshade SMG and the Oris 8.6 marksman rifle, for instance, have seen reductions in their damage ranges and headshot multipliers. Infinity Ward emphasized that these are preliminary adjustments, with further modifications planned as they continue to analyze player feedback and gameplay data.
New Content and Gameplay Enhancements
The update also brings new playable content to the beta. A new map, codenamed 'Cachette', and a fresh game mode, 'Inflation', have been added to the multiplayer rotation. In 'Inflation', players compete to eliminate enemies and 'High-Value Target' (HVT) operators to accumulate cash. The player who amasses the most wealth becomes a marked target for all other players, creating dynamic high-risk, high-reward scenarios. The inclusion of 'Cachette' brings the total number of maps available to four, enabling the long-awaited map voting feature. Infinity Ward had previously stated that four maps were necessary for the map voting system to function effectively.
Visibility on the 'Transit 213' map has also been improved with brighter shadowed areas and an adjusted color balance. Beyond these significant additions, the update includes a comprehensive list of minor bug fixes. These range from resolving issues with 'Mobility Course' completion to addressing controller reconnection errors. For PC players experiencing difficulties accessing the beta, Infinity Ward is actively working on enhancing the 'Secure Attestation Wizard,' a tool designed to diagnose and resolve entry issues.
However, not all problems have been resolved. The 'Join in Progress' feature remains temporarily disabled on the 'Kill Block' map due to ongoing issues with round transitions. Additionally, certain lethal equipment can still cause frame rate drops (FPS) when cooked, a problem the developers are investigating. The beta is currently in its early access phase, running until August 25th for players who have pre-ordered the game. An open beta weekend, accessible to all players, is scheduled from August 28th to September 1st.
The developers are actively encouraging players to continue submitting feedback. "We're working every day of the Beta to improve the experience, so keep the feedback coming. We're listening," Infinity Ward stated. This iterative approach to development, common in modern game releases, aims to refine the player experience before the game's official launch. The beta phase is crucial for identifying and rectifying bugs, balancing gameplay mechanics, and ensuring a smooth launch. Players' engagement during this period directly influences the final product.
