Just months after filing for bankruptcy, iRobot has officially relaunched under new ownership with a lineup of eight new Roomba robot vacuum cleaners. The company, which pioneered the robot vacuum category 23 years ago, has been acquired by its principal manufacturer based in China. This marks a significant rebirth for the brand, which aims to regain market share with enhanced performance and updated designs.

The new owners, Shenzhen PICEA Robotics, have introduced a range of improvements across the latest Roomba models. Key upgrades include substantially higher suction power, more compact dimensions for improved maneuverability in homes, and the expansion of roller mop capabilities. A notable new feature is "hot spot mopping," designed to tackle tougher stains more effectively. According to reports, many of the new models are up to 25 percent smaller than their predecessors, addressing a common user desire for less obtrusive home cleaning devices.

Enhanced Performance and Features

While U.S. pricing has not yet been finalized, reported U.K. prices suggest a competitive entry point for the base models, with potentially higher costs for premium units. The entry-level Roomba 115 Combo, for instance, is expected to offer a significant upgrade with doubled suction power to 15,000 Pa. An optional auto-empty dock is also available for this model, providing added convenience for an estimated additional cost.

The flagship model, the Roomba 775 combo, represents a substantial leap in cleaning power. It nearly doubles the suction power of its predecessor, reaching an impressive 30,000 Pa. This top-tier model also introduces advanced cleaning functions, including pressurized hot spray pretreatment and the aforementioned hotspot mopping feature. Like previous high-end models, it continues to utilize a sophisticated combination of LiDAR navigation and AI-powered camera systems to map and clean homes efficiently. The accompanying dock not only empties the robot's dustbin but also washes the mop using hot water and dries it with hot air, ensuring a hygienic and effective cleaning cycle.

The acquisition by Shenzhen PICEA Robotics signifies a strategic shift for the iRobot brand. By integrating manufacturing and design more closely, the company aims to streamline production and deliver products that better meet consumer demands for both power and practicality. The introduction of these Roomba robots reflects a commitment to innovation in a market that has seen increased competition in recent years. The company hopes these advancements will help it reclaim its position as a leader in the burgeoning robot vacuum market.
