Pokemon Pokopia 2.0 Update: Major Changes Arrive for Hit Game
Nintendo has released the massive 2.0 update for its hit game, Pokemon Pokopia. The patch introduces nearly 100 new features, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes requested by players.

Nintendo has rolled out the much-anticipated 2.0 update for its highly successful title, Pokemon Pokopia, introducing a significant overhaul with nearly 100 new additions and improvements. Released in March 2026, the game has quickly become a fan favorite, and this substantial patch addresses numerous player-requested quality-of-life features, alongside new content and critical bug fixes.
Among the extensive list of new features is the addition of the 'Dive' move, enabling players to navigate underwater environments freely. Complementing this is the ability to construct houses underwater using the 'Build' specialty. New items such as the portal pod and safe have been introduced, and recipes can now be acquired by leveling up Palette Town's environment. Players can also discover the new 'dynamic Ditto print' pattern by speaking with Smearguru after obtaining the diploma. Two new emotes, 'Lie Down' and 'Ready, Set, Go!', are available in Bleak Beach and on Dream Islands, respectively. The update also adds five new hair colors: orange, light pink, yellow-green, blue-green, and brown.
Quality-of-life enhancements are a major focus of the 2.0 patch. Players can now move items in bulk between their storage box and bag, and delete items directly from containers like the garbage bin. Fine-tuning depth placement for windows, doors, and similar items is now possible. An option to hide confirmation messages when canceling 'Magnet Rise' has been added, alongside an option allowing movement while the move wheel is open. For players prone to motion sickness, new camera settings are available to reduce discomfort. A wide array of items can now be painted, including furniture like the stylish stool and bookcase, as well as functional items such as the vending machine and Pokémon Center counter.
Expanded Gameplay Mechanics and Pokémon Interactions
The update significantly expands gameplay mechanics and how players interact with their Pokémon companions. If a Pokémon's habitat is destroyed, it will now return if the same habitat is rebuilt nearby, ensuring continuity. Pokémon that become sad due to removed furniture will now notice replacements more quickly. Furthermore, Pokémon that taught players emotes will now respond with the same emote when used by the player. The Pokédex now allows players to travel directly to another town where a searched Pokémon resides using the 'Return Home' function. Special Pokémon conversations and requests, particularly those directed at Ditto, are more prominent due to reduced ordinary conversation indicators. The appraisal of lost relics can now be done in batches of up to ten, and actions like 'Paint', 'Gather Honey', and 'Collect' can be performed multiple times in a single interaction. During crafting, materials from a nearby storage box will be prioritized over those in the player's bag. The placement limit for power generators has been doubled from 64 to 128, and the number of displayable town photos has increased from 10 to 40.
Interactions involving Ditto have also seen improvements, allowing players to hold liquids in Ditto's mouth without removing them from the environment by short-pressing the move button while sucking up liquid. When releasing stored water, adjusted water levels now automatically match nearby bodies of water. Smearguru can now learn patterns from photos stored in References, and visibility of target items during painting with paint balloons has been enhanced. Treasure discoverable with the Dowsing Machine on Dream Islands has been increased. Pokémon companions can now follow players while using various movement abilities, including Surf, Glide, Rollout, and Magnet Rise. Inhaling items and opening the bag are now possible while using 'Rollout', which can also destroy certain natural objects like large boulders. 'Surf' can now be activated on land by pressing the Surf button while holding the focus button, and its activation conditions, along with 'Waterfall', have been improved for smoother execution. 'Leafage' can now be used on farm soil to revert it to normal soil, and 'Strength' can now be utilized underwater. Both the Pokédex and Habitat Dex now feature an 'All' tab for easier navigation. The game clarifies that buildings can still be remodeled even with items like the Ditto Flag attached to roofs or walls. During construction, unassigned Pokémon can now assist with cooking. Finally, treasures in Sparkling Skylands will no longer appear when terrain changes would cause them to fall, and messaging for insufficient materials in the 3D Printer has been improved.
Bug fixes address a variety of issues, including Pokémon failing to appear or return to habitats, incorrect dialogue options, issues with specific Pokémon like Suicune and Gholdengo crossing water, and problems with berry processing. Some visual glitches and item placement errors have also been resolved. The update aims to provide a smoother, more immersive experience for the millions of players who have embraced Pokemon Pokopia since its March 2026 launch.
Pokemon Pokopia has been a remarkable success for Nintendo, selling 2.2 million units in its first four days and reaching 4 million copies sold. This strong performance positions it as a crucial title for the Switch 2, especially as Nintendo seeks to maintain momentum in the console market. The extensive 2.0 patch is a clear indication of Nintendo's commitment to supporting its flagship titles with ongoing content and improvements.
