Google Enhances Search & Gemini With AI Study Tools for Students
Google has rolled out new AI-powered study tools across Search and Gemini, aiming to assist students with complex subjects through interactive visuals, simulations, and personalized quizzes.

Mountain View, California – Google announced on Wednesday a significant expansion of its AI-powered study resources, integrating new features into its Search engine and Gemini chatbot designed to enhance learning for students. These enhancements include interactive visualizations, 3D simulations, a dedicated student hub, and customized practice quizzes, as Google intensifies its competition in the educational AI space.
The move represents the tech giant’s latest push to position Gemini as the go-to AI assistant for academic pursuits, directly challenging rivals like OpenAI and specialized educational technology startups such as Knowt and Gauth. These competitors are also actively developing and deploying their own learning and practice tools, signaling a growing trend toward AI in education.
Within Google Search, students can now leverage AI to generate custom tools and simulations that simplify understanding of complex subjects. For instance, a student researching the concept of pH levels might search for “pH scale” and receive an AI-generated overview featuring an interactive visual aid. Further queries, such as plotting citrus fruits on the pH scale, will prompt AI Mode in Search to create a tailored interactive experience that addresses the specific follow-up question.
Furthermore, users can now generate personalized practice quizzes directly within Search across a wide array of subjects, including science, mathematics, humanities, and foreign languages. A prompt like, “Create a quiz with the most commonly tested vocabulary words to help me prep for the SAT,” will result in an interactive quiz generated by the search engine.
Enhanced Problem-Solving and Document Creation
In the coming weeks, Google Lens within Search will introduce a new interactive learning experience to assist students with problem-solving. By tapping the Lens icon in the Google app and uploading a photo of their work, students can receive AI-driven explanations of concepts, identify potential errors, and obtain guidance when they encounter difficulties.
Additionally, students can now request Search to compile study documents from their uploaded files, which can include PDFs, Google Docs, and presentations. For example, uploading handwritten notes alongside lecture slides could yield a concise one-page summary of key concepts, streamlining revision efforts.
The Gemini platform is also receiving substantial upgrades aimed at students. A new feature allows users to initiate multi-step research reports directly within Gemini Live, with the ability to discuss the findings conversationally. Users can task Gemini with researching a topic and then continue with other activities or switch applications, receiving a notification when the report is complete. Subsequent discussions or follow-up questions can be posed vocally.
Google also revealed that Gemini can now produce functional 3D simulations to aid comprehension. Responses will incorporate tables, grids, and simulations specifically designed for the user's prompt. For instance, a request such as “show me how DNA works in 3D” will enable users to interactively rotate and zoom into a detailed 3D model of DNA structure, providing a more immersive understanding.
To consolidate these learning resources, Google is launching a dedicated student hub within the Gemini app. This central location will offer tools for creating study notebooks, flashcards, and taking practice quizzes, consolidating the platform's educational capabilities into a single, accessible interface. This integrated approach aims to provide a comprehensive suite of AI-driven tools for academic success.
