Google Photos on Android devices is now rolling out a long-awaited feature: a dedicated "Stickers" folder within the app's "Collections" tab. This update allows users to access and reuse custom stickers they have previously created, a functionality that has been available to iPhone users for nearly six months. The addition aims to streamline the process for users who frequently create and send stickers derived from their own photos.

Previously, Android users who wanted to reuse a sticker they had made from a personal photo would have to manually re-create it each time. This new "Stickers" folder, appearing in the "Collections" tab alongside other albums like "Favorites" and "Utilities," stores these custom creations automatically. This means users can now quickly find and re-deploy their favorite sticker designs without the redundant step of cropping and saving them anew.

Bringing Android in Line with iOS

The introduction of the reusable stickers feature on Android brings Google Photos' capabilities closer to feature parity with its iOS counterpart. Google has a history of rolling out new app functionalities to iOS first, with Android versions often receiving the updates months later. This particular feature for custom stickers is a prime example, taking approximately six months to transition from iPhone devices to Android phones. While the delay is notable, the rollout signifies a step towards a more consistent user experience across platforms.

The feature is being deployed through Google Photos version 7.78. Users eager to access the new "Stickers" folder may need to ensure their app is updated to the latest version. However, Google often implements its rollouts gradually, meaning it might take some time to appear on all devices. Early reports indicate that while some devices may see the feature immediately after updating, others might experience a delay.

This quality-of-life improvement is expected to be particularly beneficial for power users who frequently use custom stickers in their conversations. By centralizing these creations, Google Photos simplifies a workflow that was previously more cumbersome. The ability to easily access and re-use stickers ensures that personalized visual communication remains efficient and accessible within the app.
