SpaceX Falcon 9 Deploys SiriusXM Satellite

SpaceX launched a substantial SiriusXM radio satellite, designated SXM-11, into orbit from Florida's Space Coast on Sunday evening, June 28. The 15,400-pound spacecraft lifted off atop a Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 10:25 p.m. EDT (0225 GMT on June 29). The reusable first stage of the Falcon 9 rocket executed a planned return to Earth, landing on the "A Shortfall of Gravitas" drone ship in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 8.5 minutes after liftoff. This marked the 17th mission for the specific booster, identified as B1085, according to SpaceX.

Following the booster's separation, the Falcon 9's upper stage continued its journey, successfully deploying the SXM-11 satellite into an elliptical geosynchronous transfer orbit about 34.5 minutes after the initial launch. The satellite will now undertake the process of circularizing its path to reach its operational position high above Earth, where it will join the existing SiriusXM satellite-radio constellation. This latest addition brings the total number of SiriusXM satellites launched by SpaceX to four.

Satellite Constellation Expansion

The SXM-11 satellite is now set to enhance the capabilities of SiriusXM's current fleet, which comprises seven operational spacecraft. SpaceX has a history of supporting SiriusXM's orbital ambitions, having previously launched SXM-8 in June 2021, SXM-9 in December 2024, and SXM-10 in June 2025. All these missions also utilized the reliable Falcon 9 rocket. The successful deployment of SXM-11 underscores the continued partnership between the satellite radio provider and the private spaceflight company.

This launch also contributes to SpaceX's extensive mission manifest for 2026. As of this launch, the company has completed 76 Falcon 9 missions this year. The majority of these flights, nearly 80%, have been dedicated to the expansion of SpaceX's Starlink broadband internet constellation, which is being deployed in low Earth orbit. The company's consistent launch cadence highlights its pivotal role in both commercial satellite deployment and the growing low Earth orbit economy.
