Microsoft is now embedding its own artificial intelligence image generation capabilities directly into PowerPoint and Bing, giving millions of users faster, integrated access to AI-powered visual content creation without leaving the platform.

Microsoft announced in August 2026 that it is rolling out proprietary AI image generation technology across two of its most widely used platforms: Microsoft PowerPoint and the Bing search engine. The move marks a significant shift toward embedding generative AI directly into existing productivity and search tools rather than requiring users to navigate to separate third-party services.
The technology enables users to generate custom images by typing a text description into a dedicated interface within PowerPoint or Bing. Presentations that previously required stock photography or manual design work can now be populated with AI-generated visuals in seconds. Satya Nadella, Chief Executive of Microsoft, emphasized during a company briefing that this integration reflects the company's strategy to make artificial intelligence accessible at the point of work. Users working on a PowerPoint deck can now click a new "Generate Image" button in the ribbon menu. The Bing integration operates similarly within search results. When a user types a query that could benefit from visual content, Bing displays an option to "Create an image" alongside standard text results. This feature is designed to enhance research workflows and provide inspiration for users exploring visual concepts.
Microsoft's approach differs from competitors by leveraging its own proprietary machine learning models rather than licensing third-party APIs. This decision reduces latency, lowers per-request costs for the company, and ensures that generated images comply with Microsoft's content policies without external dependencies.
Why Microsoft Built Its Own Technology
Microsoft has invested heavily in image generation research over the past 18 months.
