Final Fantasy VII Revelation Trilogy Finale Arrives Spring 2027
Square Enix announced 'Final Fantasy VII: Revelation,' the final installment of its remake trilogy, set to launch in Spring 2027. A trailer debuted at Summer Game Fest, revealing the game's plot and new features.

The epic saga of Cloud Strife and his companions will reach its conclusion with the announcement of ‘Final Fantasy VII: Revelation’, the third and final game in Square Enix’s remake trilogy. The highly anticipated title is slated for a Spring 2027 release on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and S, and PC. This launch coincides with the 30th anniversary of the original groundbreaking game.
The reveal came during the Summer Game Fest event held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Friday. Voice actor Matthew Mercer, reprising his role as Vincent Valentine from the previous installment, ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth,’ made an appearance during the trailer premiere. The trailer showcased the game's narrative direction and offered a glimpse into its gameplay.
According to Square Enix, ‘Revelation’ will plunge players into a world on the precipice of destruction. Cloud and his allies, reeling from the loss of a comrade and facing their formidable nemesis Sephiroth’s ascent toward godhood, must embark on a desperate mission. Their objective: to pilot the airship Highwind and prevent Meteor from devastating the planet. With the inclusion of the skilled gunslinger Vincent Valentine and the seasoned pilot Cid Highwind, the team will have the freedom to explore vast new territories across the globe.
New Systems and Story Culmination
The climactic conclusion promises new combat mechanics, including a refined job system, and the opportunity for players to forge deeper bonds with the characters. These elements are designed to help the heroes confront the ultimate threat to their world. The narrative centers on “resolve,” with Cloud and his companions confronting their personal convictions as they journey towards the final confrontation that will decide the planet's destiny.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi expressed his enthusiasm for the project in a press release. "I’m beyond excited to announce ‘Final Fantasy VII: Revelation,’ launching simultaneously across all platforms in Spring 2027," Hamaguchi stated. "I’m truly grateful to our fans who believed in this story and supported us for so many years. In this title, centered around ‘resolve,’ Cloud and his companions will confront their respective convictions and continue their journey towards the final battle that will determine the planet’s fate."
Hamaguchi emphasized the culmination of years of storytelling. "All the stories and emotions accumulated over the years will culminate in the most satisfying way with this experience, brought to you as the series’ final chapter. Please look forward to it," he added. The development team aims to deliver a deeply satisfying experience for long-time fans, tying together the threads of the narrative that have been built across the remake series and the original game.
The development of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy began in 2015, aiming to reimagine the beloved 1997 PlayStation classic for a modern audience. The first part, ‘Final Fantasy VII Remake,’ was released in 2020, followed by ‘Final Fantasy VII Rebirth’ in February 2026. This final chapter, ‘Revelation,’ is expected to bring the reimagined story to a close, potentially altering familiar plot points while retaining the core essence of the original narrative. Fans are eagerly anticipating how Square Enix will conclude this ambitious project, especially given the critical and commercial success of the preceding installments.
