Honor's much-anticipated Robot Phone is now available for preorder in China. It features a unique titanium camera gimbal with AI subject tracking and gesture controls, aimed at photographers and videographers.
The Honor Robot Phone, a device with a highly anticipated automated camera gimbal, has officially opened for preorders, initially launching in China. This unique "robot" feature refers to the device's motorized camera mount, constructed from titanium, capable of a full 360-degree rotation and various cinematic movements. Designed to capture difficult shots and offer advanced video capabilities, the gimbal supports modes like tilt lock, FPV view, and spinshot, enhanced by an integrated AI algorithm for automatic subject tracking. Users can also control the camera arm and initiate shots using hands-free gestures.
The camera hardware itself boasts impressive specifications, featuring a dual rear setup with two 200-megapixel sensors: one main lens and one telephoto lens. Honor collaborated with Arri, a professional cinema camera manufacturer, to integrate features such as AI-assisted noise reduction and an expanded dynamic range, providing tools for aspiring videographers. The system allows for real-time footage preview and output in RAW file format.
Advanced AI and Third-Party Integration
Running on MagicOS, the Robot Phone introduces "YOYO Robot Mode," a sophisticated system combining multimodal perception, contextual understanding, gesture recognition, and physical movement. This anthropomorphizes the camera gimbal, enabling it to perform actions like dancing and rotating on command, as demonstrated in earlier previews. Honor plans to open the platform to third-party developers, encouraging them to create new applications that leverage the phone's gimbal, perception, and embodied-interaction capabilities. This move suggests a future where the phone's unique hardware can be utilized in novel ways beyond its initial applications.
Beyond its camera innovations, the Robot Phone is a capable smartphone. It is powered by a Snapdragon Elite Gen 5 chip, complemented by a custom cooling system and a substantial 7,060mAh battery. The device features a 6.3-inch OLED display with adaptive refresh rates and a peak brightness of 6,800 nits. Two configurations are available for preorder: one with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, and a higher-end model with 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage.
Official sales and shipments are set to begin on August 18, 2026. Currently, the Honor Robot Phone is exclusive to the Chinese market. Pricing starts at approximately $1,480 for the 12GB model and $2,075 for the 16GB version, reflecting the advanced technology integrated into the device, particularly its sophisticated robot gimbal system.
